Cheers Col, so you think it's the Supercharger coupler?

darn, I was looking at replacing that, but only next year at the 10-yr service as everything needs to come off anyway... --

Can't really answer that, only remember reading the tsb a while back so thought it may be a possibility, little bit of work but might be worth removeing the s/c belt and run it up to see if noise goes away first before start ripping the engine apart.

Cheers

Update: a video of the supercharger being rotated by hand https://new.reddit.com/r/rangeroversport/c...replacing/

So the coupler needs to be replaced, right? --

from superchargersonline, fml

" It appears that the correct isolator for your vehicle will be either part number 360145 or 360148. The problem I am running into is Eaton changed couplers during the 2015 model year and it could have either one of these isolators. Is there any chance you can remove the nose cover and take a picture of your actual isolator. If that is not an option, then we could sell you both isolators and then you can return the one that is not needed. So shoot me a picture if you can and we will go from there. " --

Several firm do advertise a upgraded one piece coupling for the TVS 1900 S/C which does away with the torsion spring which I believe is the main problem with the o.e. coupling failing, it might be advisable to strip it out first as you may find the shaft and bearings worn as well as the coupler, in that case you may be best ordering a snout o/haul kit.

Yeah, after a long chat with the mech, we are going to order one of these:

Quote:

Solid Nyloil® Green Supercharger Coupler Coupling for Eaton
Upgrade Aftermarket Replacement Part
Oil-filled nylon (green color)
Oil-filled nylon contains liquid lubricant that is encapsulated during manufacturing and provides true lubrication at the bearing surface.
The material is suitable for applications where maintenance lubrication is difficult or impossible. In addition, there is no moisture adsorption. The upgrade coupling is designed for a long service life.
Low friction coefficient
Reduced "Slip-Stick"
Low moisture absorption
Reduces or eliminates need for lubrication
Suitable for the following compressor models

Eaton TVS Jaguar Land Rover 5.0
Only 5.0 models!
Does not fit 3.0
Suitable for/ Fits

Jaguar XK XK8 XKR X150 2009-2014
Land Rover Range Rover Sport 5.0 2009-
Land Rover Range Rover 5.0 2009-

Quote:

TVS UPRATED COUPLER
The Achilles heel on the Jaguar and Range Rover TVS is the sprung drive coupler, if you have a rattle at idle it could very well be this. The coupler spring wears against the shaft until it breaks and badly wears the shaft as pictured. Our uprated coupler removes the spring from question and works on worn shafts without issue. Simply renewing for a sprung coupler will only end in the same fate. Our uprated oil filled nylon couplers start at just £38.

I put a solid coupler in my 4.2L Eaton supercharger and regreteted it instantly. If you have any worn bearings in the blower, the solid coupler exagerats the play and will increase noise from them. I ordered the OEM spring one and its quite now.
I undertand this is a differnet blower but be careful and research the forums for others that have completed the job. 2009 Range Rover Sport Supercharged

^ yeah, I've heard about this as well.

This is why we're going for the oil-filled ones, these seem to do a much better job at absorbing vibrations --

Hmm, apparently this is not a good idea, as @Rayodunne said:

from Powerhouse.co.uk:

"Hi Nakkiran,

No, we only sell the OEM sprung coupler, not the oil filled nylon ones.

This is because we used to sell oil-filled solid for these models and after a year of selling we found approx.. 50% of those customers complaining of a high frequency rattle at idle. Vibration can be bad for superchargers so without long-term knowledge of whether this would impact the supercharger reliability we advise not using them." --

Your original sprung one lasted almost 9 years, just use an OEM one. lol 2009 Range Rover Sport Supercharged
