Steering issues?

HI Guys

I have a strange problem with my car and was wondering if anyone had the same issue or offer some advice on what to check.

The car is a 2017 sport, 33000 miles and I have owned the car for more than 2 years.

When driving around town etc everything is fine, however at motorway speeds around 70mph the steering pulls very slightly to the left, when you correct it it pulls very slightly to the right…….i feels as though some sort of sensor is trying to correct it, is there such a sensor?.

So far I have had all of the wheels balanced, it has 22inch alloys

The 4 wheel alignment has been checked by 2 different garages, both said everything was fine and inside tolerances, the alignment paperwork showed everything in the green.

Only thing I can add is it has cheapo tyres fitted (greenlane), they were on when I bought it….do you think it may because the previous owner was too tight to fit quality tyres?.

Thanks for reading

Bob

As far as I know (and in my RRS 2015) lane assist does not correct your driving, only gives a (tactile) warning when leaving the lane. Maybe different in 2017 model.

Bob,

I think the 2017 does correct steering. Easiest way is assuming you have the virtual / digital dash either check in settings using the left hand steering wheel menu access to see if you have lane assist. Or look at the speedo, approximately at 7pm just off the speedo there should be 2 not quite parallel lines about 25mm long that get narrower towards the top and are dotted.

If you have this an it is active then it is quite possible the car trying to correct itself if it detects the car drifting towards the limits of the lane. The system is quite crude so when it corrects it can overcorrect and feel like its bouncing you off the limits of both sides of the lane.

Nick
