Crankshaft sensor replaced by mechanic with small hands.

Terrible not running with ~Crank sensor failure.
Looked at it (2.7 L320) took off heat shields /watched videos .
I could not even touch the rubber cover to its location.
Booked into Douglass Motors Rugby.
Quoted for gear box off etc with VAT about £1500.
Delivered on a flat bed at 9.30am , ready for collection at 4 pm.
A mechanic with small hands had pushed the turbo aside and put one in .
£800 with VAT. runs perfect.
Now other garages would have kept it for 3 days ..said they had the GB off and charged the full wack.

How involved is removing the front diff, D_M? Less than the gearbox, presumably. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Out and in in 3-4 hours, and much more room around the area in which to work Thumbs Up

Sorry dont get the diff out solution to the crankshaft sensor.
The sensor is on the line between the engine block and gearbox . What is in the way is the turbo.
The diff is much further to the front Always listen to old people or when they die you will live on in ignorance.

I've done them before. You booked into a garage to have it done

I think I've a little more experience with it than you Wink

Sure you do micky but how does removing the diff get you more access behind the turbo? Always listen to old people or when they die you will live on in ignorance.

Wow, your pleasant Laughing

The turbo sits further forward than the crank sensor. It is entirely doable without removing the turbo.
The JLR WSM does say the turbo needs to come off, but JLR also state gearbox oil is good for 150k miles Rolling Eyes

If your still in doubt, here is someone else who has replaced the crank sensor without removing the turbo:
