Yes crankshaft sensor but I understand you can change the sensor with a lot of hassle from behind the LH front wheel by the turbo ...well a lot less hassle than taking the gearbox out..

I have a video on how to do it ..involves taking upper wishbone off and some heat shields but if its possible must be easier than taking off the gearbox ..TFB and exhaust etc. Of course may be a problem with the connector ..I should be so lucky ! Always listen to old people or when they die you will live on in ignorance.
