They're dead easy to remove.  2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Always worth removing the bit that goes up the rear door post as well, and clean all the mud and crap out that builds up under that.

As Col says, you will be surprised how much muck gets in there. Probably worth getting some new clips before you take the wheel arch trim off, they're 15 years old and are probably a bit brittle by now.
