Fuel filler not lockable?

Noticed my fuel filler flap does not lock 2009 L320....My friend has a 2010 and his does lock.
Is it an option to retrofit a lock or was it never on the Mk 1 ?

PS found a locking cap on ebay for £8.95 but would prefer it to be electric. Always listen to old people or when they die you will live on in ignorance.

The plastic end can break off or motor failed inside the car

Open flap.

Locate small round hole in the side.
Press the lock button on key while looking at the hole and see if something moves out flush

Yes can find a motor and cable to the flap. It looks like the end of the cable has been broken off ?? as moving the motor by hand does not cause anything to come out the hole to lock with the flap.
will investigate furthur. Always listen to old people or when they die you will live on in ignorance.

I once did a no cost fix.

Pulled the cable out the flap
Removed the shoulder to allow the remaining bit to come out enough.
Then cut the right amount off the outer cable. (The amount you want it to pretrud)

Yes someone has got out and locked the car ..noticed the flap open and bashed it shut breaking off the plastic bolt.

Solution in my world is take a 5mm bolt ..turn it in the lathe to correct diameter. Small hole in end and braze it onto the stainless centre or the cable.

If you know how far it sticks out into the filler hole that would help me get the length first time. Always listen to old people or when they die you will live on in ignorance.

Mine sticks out 9mm, but it’s non standard.

Length isn’t critical

It’s a bmw design
