Those corner cast weights

Been looking for a clonk on a bumpy road and it seems the weights can move and bonk somehow.

If suspension is an up down system why do these weights rotate/move front rear ? And what is the explanation of there function?
Anybody taken them off? Always listen to old people or when they die you will live on in ignorance.

They are harmonic dampers for the chassis and have nothing to do with the suspension. Yes, they have been removed for extreme offroading albeit rather due to other body modifications. Yes, you will feel vibrations throughout the car at certain speeds when removed. Yes, there is no reason to remove them. Yes, it is one of the most frequently asked questions. Regards etc.,

At the moment I have jambed some wooden wedges between them and the chassis to shut them up..we will see ... Always listen to old people or when they die you will live on in ignorance.

They are supposed to be freely moving, though Smile Never had any of them travel so far they hit something and make a noise. Is it the case? Regards etc.,

Just got a bit of a clonk on a big pot hole so stopped them moving for elimination purposes. Always listen to old people or when they die you will live on in ignorance.

On my TDV8 from the factory the RH exhaust was too close to the damper weight so it would "clonk" every now and then - only about 5mm clearance.
