If it works in the other light cluster configurations, it may be your RR does not see the brake light. This gives the same symptom like a damaged brake switch does. It may happen if the unit is a copy and not original, or the unit is damaged.

Ideally, read the codes to find out what’s causing this. Might be something entirely unconnected, eg the fuel filter water sensor can throw this message too…. Which won’t be fixed by changing the tail light. Gone: 10MY L320 RR Sport HSE, Ipanema Sand

Thank`s for your suggestions but I`m pretty sure the issue rests with the new rear light cluster. If I refit the old one problem goes away.

It sound like you have diagnosed the problem. Is it definitely from the same model year? The pre-facelift cars had bulbs whereas the facelift have LED's.

Thank`s for your thought`s . My vehicle was registered March 2011 so probably a 2010 model and by this time (post 2009) already had the LED light cluster as standard so should be no issues with the old style lighting. The aftermarket unit I was given with the vehicle looks externally identical to the original unit but when I pop a bulb holder and look inside does`nt seem to posses the substantial PC board the original had.

So, you have found it. Or you didn't, because the PCB is not there, but nevertheless...

I think it is possible, but with much cutting and gluing which I will only try as a last resort. I still think the answer here is to be able tell the RR electronically that the new part is OK, as the new light itself works perfectly, or maybe a course of antibiotics to help with the rejection of the new body part !! |
