United Kingdom 2011 Range Rover Sport 3.0 TDV6 HSE Stornoway Grey
"Restricted Performance" problem.

Hi everybody, I have a 2011 Range Rover Sport 3.0 diesel 87k with full Onyx body kit. I bought this vehicle two months ago and apart from a few minor glitches all looks good. However the rear light cluster was cracked and the previous owner had purchased another but not fitted so passed on to me.
This unit seemed to be identical to the old one and performed as it should but sends the vehicle into "restricted performance" mode, it seems as if the vehicle is rejecting the new body part, any ideas would be much appreciated.

If it works in the other light cluster configurations, it may be your RR does not see the brake light. This gives the same symptom like a damaged brake switch does. It may happen if the unit is a copy and not original, or the unit is damaged.

I would check MAF sensors and piping under the hood, tho. Regards etc.,

Ideally, read the codes to find out what’s causing this. Might be something entirely unconnected, eg the fuel filter water sensor can throw this message too…. Laughing Which won’t be fixed by changing the tail light. Gone: 10MY L320 RR Sport HSE, Ipanema Sand

Thank`s for your suggestions but I`m pretty sure the issue rests with the new rear light cluster. If I refit the old one problem goes away.
I was hoping somebody on this forum may have had the same problem when fitting an aftermarket rear light cluster, surely it does`nt only rain on me Rolling with laughter

It sound like you have diagnosed the problem. Is it definitely from the same model year? The pre-facelift cars had bulbs whereas the facelift have LED's.
The cynic in me thinks that the previous owner thought that he could save money by buying a non-genuine part and on trying it realised it threw the fault code, but failed to tell you that you would need a genuine part.
I suppose you could contact him and ask for some money back, but "sold as seen..."?
I would guess that LR would want a kidney for a new one but you could try a good used one from a reputable salvage company.

Thank`s for your thought`s . My vehicle was registered March 2011 so probably a 2010 model and by this time (post 2009) already had the LED light cluster as standard so should be no issues with the old style lighting. The aftermarket unit I was given with the vehicle looks externally identical to the original unit but when I pop a bulb holder and look inside does`nt seem to posses the substantial PC board the original had.

There seem to be many aftermarket light units for sale, so assume some must be OK or this forum would be full of questions like mine.

So, you have found it. Or you didn't, because the PCB is not there, but nevertheless...
Perhaps it is easily transferrable from old into new? Regards etc.,

I think it is possible, but with much cutting and gluing which I will only try as a last resort. I still think the answer here is to be able tell the RR electronically that the new part is OK, as the new light itself works perfectly, or maybe a course of antibiotics to help with the rejection of the new body part !!
