Front sump guard

Eh up all,

Bit of a daft question but .....🤔

My small sump guard at the front of the engine has been butchered 😡🤬

At the edge nearest the rear .... there are two screw threads that have been ground off leaving 10mm showing ☹️🤬

At the front nearest bumper there are two bolt heads that just rotate when I put a socket on them 🤔☹️

Here’s my guess . The rear with the threads are bolt threads that are into captured nuts on the other side .
The fronts must are new bolts which I’m guessing are into some sort of spring clip fixing .....

So what’s the proper set up . Big Cry

I’m going to take the front lower inner wing plastic cover off and see if I can get a view of WTF is holding the bolts in place , then drop them out.

Will buy a used front sump from eBay if I can find one and I’m right

How should it fit on please 😁

Bl88dy thing took my best part of 2 hours to work out ..... 🤯

Thanks for input in advance

The two 6 mm screws at the front are just screwed into spring clip/nuts, If they are just rotating I would imagine someone has bodged the wrong screws in or over tightened them and broken the clip in two halves so it just rotates.

Use a bit of copperslip when refitting bolts, help stop them seizing for next time it needs removing, it is a Range Rover so there will be a next time. Laughing

Google KRB000122 should throw up the front guard, only about £20.00 new if you wanted to go that route.

Cheers

Eh up and thanks, I guessed it was something on those lines for the ones nearest the front bumper 👍

What about the two at the back ie towards the rear of the engine as looking down to the boot?

What do they go into ?

Will get done clips sorted - and stainless bolts 🤔 I’m thinking same as you it’s coming off again 😂🤣😂

Cheers for any more information

If I remember right there are just welded captive nuts that retain the rear bolts, fitting a new front guard will automatical replace the nuts as they are welded to that. If the heads are missing on the rear bolts if you can get the front two out the the guard will basicaly drop out.

Cheers

Belive it or not but the 10mm bolts are actualy torqued up to 62 Nm I also seem to recall they are serrated flange headed bolts as well.

The rears also bolt thru the large engine cover.
Ground off to enable that to be removed I guess

Andyk

Eh up

Thanks I’ve got it now, thanks for link, it’s beginning to make sense.

I got the large sump of but mines on with new bolts and I’m guessing the garage needed to ground off the fronts to get the large pan of👍 and left the little front sump 🤨

I’m sorting this week now I’m clear- hopefully not a big hassle but let’s see.

Im betting those font bolts will be a bu88er as if the spring clip on the other side is knackered I’m taking the access panel of both side to try and clamp them while getting bolt out🤬

Hey ho least it will be right

Cheers guys Thumbs Up

Eh up all,

While I’ve been mucking around with front brakes and bumper I’ve tried to get these bl88dy bolts out of the small sump guard Big Cry Censored

FFS I’ve stripped and rebuilt the brakes - but can I get these bolts to shift - I ain’t no idiot but feel like one Rolling Eyes

So before I resort to the grinder in defeat

These are two 10mm socket size bolts fixed into the front crossmember ( ie nearest the front bumper) , I’ve popped of the driver side lower wheel arch cover and my mits ain’t fitting in the gap to feel WTF is holding these bolts in, I can’t see owt either, I can just feel there some type of spring clip top rotating when I turn the bolt.

I just can’t get a tool into hold this top of this clip Censored

I just want to check if anyone has a photo of how the proper clip should fit, what it looks like and it must seat into something.?

I’m probably over thinking 🤔 this but...... before admitting defeat and going for the grinder want to picture what it should look like, and get some parts in and stainless bolts for sure.

Col / Andy K any further advice - it’s two bl88dy bolts but there driving me mad 😡

All help appreciated- I’m of for a beer 🍺 and a think

Cheers

One on the left I think.

https://parts.jaguarlandroverclassic.com/p...and-rover/

Click on blue reference to get part No.

There is a tang with a big hole in it that sticks out.
Spring clip fits over it.

Spray wd40 on the back ? Leave for 10 mins

The spring clips have proably snapped in half leaving the top half just free to rotate and not undo, why not just cut or grind the head off the bolts the broken bits will then just fall out.

This is what the clip looks like (LR027995), may well have snapped where marked with a "X" so just rotates.

Cheers

Eh up Col / Andy K

Thanks gents Thumbs Up

I thought it must be these clips but before I resorted to grinder time 😁 wanted a double check

Will get some ordered - then I can drop it , heat up the stuck threads left in the back section 🤬 or drill and tap them out and finally get access!!

Already fired plus gas in there with no effect so it’s full on assault if I get chance this weekend

These jobs are a PIA and take too much time up 🤨

Thanks gents - this forums been a massive assist over the last 8 weeks of ownership’s
