Odd cloud of brown smoke from exhaust on my RRS

Hi guys. I recently posted on here about my 2014 RRS. With a very poor getaway. Especially at junctions and roundabouts. I've had quite a few embarrassing moments. Getting honked at by others entering the roundabout. Because the car just bogs down. Bhen I try to get away quickly. but after what seems ages. It goes off like a bat out of hell. Itself rather scary !!
Further to that posting. It's still crap. But the following happened last week. We were motoring along the A14. At 70mph. When I noticed in the rear mirror, that the car was emitting a rather thick, brown-colored smoke. So we immediately pulled over. Stopped the engine. And feared the worse. The performance was not affected, while it was smoking.
We waited a few minutes, discussing what we should do. I started the engine. Wehay No smoke !! So we carried on driving. The car drove perfectly. It never smoked again. And it's still not done it three weeks later. Do any of you have a clue what might have caused that to happen? It was as if the engine needed to clear its throat. Please advise. Big Cry I would be very grateful. Thanks, David.

Thanks for The "one" reply mate. I'm surprised about that. Surely there must be others who have had this issue ?? I never even heard of "regen" I know a lot more now.

If you do short round town journeys and then went on the motorway that does sound like a clogged dpf.

Had this with my wife’s ML - the engine light was always coming on and throwing a dpf code.

Now using Liqui Moly dpf cleaner at around £8 a go, every 3rd tankful and also getting the revs up on a longer journey more often.

Gives me an excuse to use her car for long trips more often and at 40+ mpg compared to my 4.2 SC at 18-20mpg makes financial sense as well Very Happy

Ah. another reply. Thanks, Johnny. I have never had any notification come up on the dash. That's what I thought was odd about the smoke. I have bought a bottle of cleaner that you add to a full tank. To hopefully clean the DPF. Yes, I do a lot of pootling where we live in Suffolk. So that's possibly the reason for the smoke last time on the motorway. We are driving up to the highlands tomorrow. That ten-hour journey with the full tank, and cleaner added. That might clear it out a bit Thumbs Up
Thanks again Dave

Doesn't post for 17 months and then makes comment about a lack of posts on his query. Rolling with laughter

Thanks, that made me laugh after a day of suffering with a head cold. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

You don’t usually get an engine light or message, it all happens behind the scenes.

Yep, a good long run should sort it.

Enjoy the drive - nice day for it !
