Retrofit heated seats

After 12 years since I was last in a black and ivory 4.2, I’ve always had the hankering to get another.

Picking up a really nice one next week from Southampton, which funnily enough is where my first one came from.

It doesn’t come with heated front seats as it’s a ROW car (and pretty much spotless underneath), so the question is whether the wiring loom is made up in the factory with the wiring to the dash and under seat to allow heated elements to be fitted ?

I’ll probably also need an ECU or module of some sorts ?

No issues stripping down and fitting and can always fit aftermarket if I need to, but thought I’d enquire first.

Thanks

Jonny

4 wires per seat used for the heater.

Some cars only have the 2 fitted.
Looking behind the climate panel to see how many connectors will help with the answer.

You need new climate panel with the buttons

Thanks Andy - looking forward to picking it up.

It’s been owned by a JLR MasterTech for the last 4 years, so has wanted for nothing. I spent ages looking for a decent 4.2 and this popped up and I had to have it.

Very useful indeed - thanks again Andy. First thing to do then is check what lurks in the loom behind my HEVAC panel before I end up going down a rabbit hole.

ISTR that the original RRS had the entire loom fitted with every connector even if not actually fitted with the relevant kit. Later the cost cutting came in and looms were made to meet the ordered specification. SO you might be lucky to find the loom is there even if you need the bits of kit at each end. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Even the early one doesn't have wiring for phone, so not sure how valid that is

I was told this by a chap that worked for the company that made the looms and worked on the RRS / Disco looms in the design and implementation stages. Thumbs Up

Later looms were built in Egypt. Indeed, I bought a replacement rear parking sensor loom (I caught the existing one and thought it damaged at the time) and it was markedly less well made than the original. As it was, I managed to sort the existing one and never fitted the new one. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

All very useful info.

Just getting my ducks in order and have anothe question if I may. I understand that if my wiring is in place, I’ll also need a heated seat module per seat, along with the HEVAC control panel. There are loads on eBay for very little money, but would be grateful if anyone can enlighten me as to where the modules go. Are they under seat or behind the dash ?

As ever, pics are really helpful if anyone has a seat out at the mo.

Many thanks again !

Jonny

They live under the seat, if memory serves correctly. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Thanks Andy - I assume the base and backrest are wired independently ? Would just be doing the bases I think.

Normally you need both as wired in series.

Otherwise it will burn out

The heating elements are wired in series so you'd need both. You might be able to work around it with some trickery but I'd hate to get it wrong and end up with a burnt arse! Whistle 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
