Driving me nuts at the mo…..
2014 L494 - perfectly ok 98% of the time but will occasionally throw a bucket load of fault codes followed by limp mode.
I’ve got a Gap tool which shows a variety faults from numerous ecu’s.
They all have a common thread - they report invalid data or lost communication.
Resetting codes works ok and everything returns to normal. It then remains ok for a good while.

I’m thinking the fault is caused by a dodgy connection somewhere ? I’ve checked the connections to the main ecu, which look fine.

Has anyone had an issue like this or can anyone point me in the right direction with troubleshooting?
I’m wondering if there are any known issues with maybe water getting into wiring looms ?

Headlight earth strap points, under the wheel arches at each side , Riv Nut and seal and job done
My drivers side one through up 29 fault codes

Red Arrow, you are indeed a star of the brightest magnitude !!

Whipped off the the arch liners this morning - more white fluff on the earthing points than you find on a baby polar bear !!

Earth points replaced, leads cleaned and the whole lot sealed

Guess how many fault codes I have now........

Zero !!

Old post but anyone got and pictures or process of these earth points in the wheel arches? A mate is having the same issue, I do occasionally get a low bat warning even though I know its full and left on a CTEC, so the BMS must think there is something going on.

Just thought if I new how to do it I could do both at same time

Hi there,

Sorry I don't have any pictures and I can't take any more as my L494 was stolen a couple of months ago !

It's an easy and obvious fix though.
Take off the front wheel and remove the wheel arch liner - its clipped in so its no big deal
Look at the suspension turret and then look inside the arch towards the front of the vehicle.


You'll soon see a couple of black wires that are crimped into one connector thats bolted to the body.

Mine was severely corroded, in fact the mounting stud snapped off as i tried to remove the bolt.
No great pain as there is another bolt a couple of cm's away. You can easily attach the crimp connector to it.
Replace the crimp connector if it looks at all suspect.

Don't forget to do both sides of the vehicle !

It transformed my life instantly as mine was throwing faults left right and centre. Afterwards there was not a fault to be seen !
