Following a fault on the ACE system I diagnosed it to a suspect valve block pressure transducer. I bit the bullet and bought one £217. I noticed it had a slight seep at the electrical connection and only got 0.3volts at idle. This should be 0.5 at 0 pressure. Suspecting it was suspect took it back, complete with pictures to ask for an exchange and was told I would have to take them the RRS and leave it with them in case it was not faulty and something else. Earliest appointment 3 weeks (I asked out of curiosity). I could not believe they would not exhange a bought faulty sensor without this rigmorole. Obvious I kicked off big style and asked to speak to the parts manager who confirmed the above and refused to exchange the part. I knew their customer service was dire but this is a new low. It's not like I had asked them to fix it just exchange the part I had bought for a working one. Speaking to couple of Indies and like-minded competents apparently this is what they insist upon doing. |

Another owner discovers how shockingly bad and/or underhanded they are. Think how many out there that are not on a forum that have been rogered. 2006 2.7 TDV6 HSE in Cairns Blue. |

The warranty is a parts and labour warranty If the part is found to be at fault, it is replaced (inc the diagnosis) at no cost to the customer If the part is not at fault and they exchange it, the warranty claim will be rejected by JLR, and the dealer will be left with a used £216 part on the shelf they cannot sell on again It is not the dealer being underhanded, or trying to wriggle out of a claim, that is the process that needs to be followed... |

Nothing to do with warranties - it's a simple matter of the customer buying a part that is faulty. The customer's contract is with the dealer as the person selling the faulty part. The Consumer Rights Act doesn't care that the dealer has to persuade JLR to refund them - that's the risk inherent in being in business.

If I'm reading this right, the OP bought a part from a main dealer. He then fitted the part and suspects 2 faults; a weep on an electrical connector (suggesting a failure of an internal seal?) and low voltage from the unit. Does it actually operate correctly/throw any faults? Obviously the fluid leak is a separate issue and reason for rejection on it's own.

I can confirm that the part was fitted carefully and correctly. I have been undertaking vehicle repairs for over 40 years and have never had an issue exchanging faulty parts at anywhere else. Why should I have to reassemble the vehicle, make an appointment then deliver the vehicle to them for an unspecified period for an issue I have correctly identified and can repair correctly. Totally unacceptable practice. We all know how frustrating these vehicles are but their practice does add to the frustrations as they fail to recognise that some of use actually know what we are doing.

The best advice is to avoid LR main dealers. If you do need to use a garage, use an LR specialist. If you need parts, buy them online from a decent factor (we have one as a sponsor of this site, for example). If you go near a LR dealership they will treat you as you have found. Don't get rid of the vehicle just because the main dealers are rubbish. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders 2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed |

Well I decided to beat them at their own game. Got a mate to add one to his parts list on my behalf. Carefully opened and switched it with the one I had. Resealed and returned it for a refund. Success. The only down side is I hope they use it in their workshop and don't sell it to anyone else. |
