Velocity AP remap on SCV8

I was bored yesterday, so I ordered the VAP remap: https://www.velocityap.com/product/rangero...lsize-svr/

Click image to enlarge

I didn't order the pulley, I'll see if I want it at a later stage.

Cost was +- €850

Will update once I've installed it Thumbs Up --

Looking forward to the update Thumbs Up The tune and upper pulley seem like a straightforward job. They claim to have tuned thousands of cars that have driven 10 million + miles. Jaguar Project 8 standard HP is 592 so the AJ133 clearly has more potential.

From their website it appears:

Stock: 495 HP , 510 HP , 550 HP , 575 HP -> = 605 HP (with tune)

Stock: 495 HP , 510 HP , 550 HP , 575 HP -> = 620 HP (with upper pulley, and tune)

Stock: 495 HP , 510 HP , 550 HP , 575 HP -> = 645 HP (with upper and lower pulleys, and tune)

After chatting with the chaps at VAP, I've decided to go for the upper pulley - the biggest reason being the costs involved: $319 for upper pulley vs $949.

So after installation I should be at 460kW, which is quite a bump from 375kW. Twisted Evil --

In preparation for the mods, I sourced supercharger oil from my local Ravenol distributor @ R725 for a litre.

The oil refill is only +-250ml, but they don't sell it in smaller volumes.

I think you should get more than that, mine produced 750Nm, well 748.9 and 750.4 on the second run to be exact when checked on a dyno after having it done.

Cheers

TBH, I don't think I want more than that, because the ZF8HP is rated to 700Nm? --

Mines has the old 6HP28 in it and that's rated at 650Nm, but has had upto 750Nm going through it at times and that along with the rest of the drive train has lasted 6 years and hasn't exploded yet. I'm inclined to think there is a fair bit of tolerance in the ZF boxes.

Cheers

Gents, so far I'm really NOT impressed by VAP.

I ordered the tune last week. I then asked them to add the upper pulley to the order a day or so later. They responded that they were going to do just that and refund me the shipping on the second order.

Surprise, I get notified by DHL that there are two packages on their way to me, so clearly whoever was communicating with me didn't relay the info internally. So scratch an extra $50 or so for the extra shipping.

Not a big deal I thought, because the flash tool just arrived.

I plug it in my laptop, fire up the VAP software, and all it says is 'Connecting to Device...', and nothing else happens. So I try it on my wife's PC, and same thing. Has anyone else had issues with the flash tool not being detected?

Add to this the fact that I asked a number of questions to their tuning support, and no response to my last two emails.

I have seen many posts about how good VAP & their support are, but so far, this is not my experience... Confused --

Ok, they responded with instructions, which resolved the issue.

Just sent them the OEM map, and hopefully I should have the remap in 1-2 days. Thumbs Up --

And then there's the transfer box which is also torque rated but to 2500Nm.

Having had a few minutes idling through the relevant workshop manual pages, it seems that whilst the transfer box is the same in the L320 and L494 (where the 2-speed transfer box is fitted), there is a difference in operation. In the original L320, the transfer box can be shifted from high to low range at speeds of up to 25mph. In the L494, the manual says that this should only be carried out with the vehicle stationary, although both can go from low to high at speeds up to 37mph. Interestingly, the facelift L320 also says do high to low when not moving.

I wonder if there were some issues with the transfer boxes when people were going from high to low whilst in motion. Or perhaps it's just that people did it at too high a speed and it got noisy! 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

I'm probably being pedantic here, but it seems to me that there is very little attention to details at VAP.

I just received the pulley, and the box lists a URL for installation instructions: https://zpegriptec.com/Install/MKJLR-SF

But the page returns a 404, and manually searching for the pulley returns zilch for this pulley.

I mean, how hard is it to provide installation instructions that are easily accessible on your website Rolling Eyes --
