Good job.

Did you somehow manage to change both without lifting the body then as you were trying?
Our of interest what turbos did you replace them with and from where?

Cheers

Job done without removing body - quite straight forward but tight to say the least - exhaust needs to be removed along with rear gearbox crossmember- although you can pivot this down if you leave one bolt in . Then you need to work from inner arches and underneath - both upper front arms need to be removed too to help create space . Mine has just turned 142k and had full history with regular oil changes throughout.
You will need a good selection of socket extensions and wobble bars and use 6 sided sockets were you can to reduce risk of stripping any nuts !

Ended up fitting fully refurbished units worked out about £600 for the pair but you probably need to add another £100 for service kit and oil etc .. also you need to clean as much of everything as you can - I took about 3ltrs of oil out of the bottom hoses of the intercooler so you can imagine the cleaning required …… and it will still smoke like a trooper for about 30mins on the first run ! - true James Bond style !

Just got a full set of brakes to fit - front and rear. Clean and underseal the chassis and floor and fit some factory mud flaps as it looks as though it’s already had them so it will fill screw holes etc ….. oh and repair the satnav aerial as it’s current not reading a signal - all should be easier than the two turbos so all good !

Nice job. A bit beyond my resources and limited facilities but interesting and certainly saved you a packet. Robin

Hi, great to hear another pair changed without removing the body. Just out of curiousity, did you replace the turbo oil feed pipes, is it possible to change them with the body on ?

With a lift, taking the body off isn't the big issue that it's made out to be. It would certainly make all of that work removing the suspension, etc., irrelevant too so the time difference is probably miniscule. Of course, one needs a lift so...

Using refurbed turbos is possibly a false economy but I can see why it's done on a car with 140k miles on it. The recon units have been known to be fairly short-lived items so fingers crossed for yours. Thumbs Up 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed
