Please help HDC trans fault engine failure

Hi everyone

I’ve got a 2008 tdv8 RRS. Long story short when I press the brake pedal I get greeted with no end a fault. HDC failure parking brake failure engine fault suspension the lot! It also goes in limp mode.

I replaced the rear brake bulbs and brake light switch with no avail. I had the instrument cluster repaired as I’m aware this can cause those same faults. Nothing changed.

I’m genuinely at a loss. When scanning the car it says the body control module has a fault on the passenger wing mirror ?
Also the brake lights don’t work at all when pressing the pedal. I’ve unplugged the rear lights and it still does the same thing when pressing the pedal. I’m thinking there might be a short somewhere? One of the rear lights was filled with water.

Thinking of selling for spares. What price would you recommend?

Need to see if you have power at brake switch with ign on (the red wire and the green/orange wire)
Then check fuses 15 and 66 behind glovebox, if you don't get this.

Only a thought but you didn't press the brake pedal by any chance while changing the switch as this can damage the switch.

Cheers

yes that is true in a way

The brake switch is self calibrating, and there is a specific install procedure, so that maybe why the lights aren't working.
Having said that, pressing the pedal has the effect of creating error messages, so I guess its detecting pedal movement

remove switch from car, but leave plugged in, see if lights work with ignition on.

Be worth checking all of the earth connections. Not unknown for a loose one to cause a spate of issues.

What is the exact error code that you get? That might help. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

I watched a video on YouTube to put it in. Defo didn’t press the brake pedal. I got it from eurocarparts £9. So don’t know if that would make a difference to a genuine one. Brake lights still don’t work.

Okay so quick update. There was no fuse in fuse 15. Popped one in and no faults now except engine fault

Can’t see a fault code as I’ve no code reader. It was my friends who I used. It just says engine fault on the little screen

That was a TDV6. Seems our new friend has a penchant for broken RRSs... 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

It needs to be code read by a LR-friendly code reader. Most generic ones won't pick up all of the fault codes.

Trying to sort out a broken RRS without a decent code reader is just making a hard job in to an impossible one. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Ha yeh I get suckered into buying faulty ones. Too gullible. That once was a blown ring on the injector. Sorted it
