Personally I wouldn't do it, although the profile may be the same at 40 the actual wall height will be different between the 275 and the 295 width tyre, making different diameter of around 16mm between the front and rear wheels which might confuse the traction control/abs etc.

A 40 profile tyre is 40% of the width of the tyre i.e 275 tyre gives 110mm wall height a 295 tyre gives walll height of 118mm.
