Rotary Gear selector intermittently sticks in neutral

There is an intermittent fault with my 2012 Range Rover Sports HSE luxury rotary gear selector which is sticking in neutral. After applying parking break, turning engine off, waiting for vehicle to power down for a few minutes, then restart car and rotary gear stick can be moved to drive and gear operates as normal. Has anyone else experienced this and have any suggestions on what can be done to overcome this ? Thanks

This is just a thought which I'll hopefully get a chance to check later today, but is there not a solenoid which prevents the rotary switch going in gear and this solenoid is operated by the brake pedal switch, probably all done through an ECU though?
The brake pedal switch is reputed to be a common fail item, I've no idea how the RRS solenoid works but a solenoid is usual a work or not work type item (electrically) but it's possible it's plunger could stick. Have you checked for codes incase there's something there? 13MY Range Rover Sport Autobiography SDV6 - mine

I had a similar intermittent problem with the rotary selector on a Jag XF about ten years ago. On that occasion, the dealer replaced the selector unit under warranty and the problem never came back. Current: 2020 P400e HSE Dynamic

Gone: 2016 SDV6 HSE
