Grumbling Under Load

Coming back down the M4 today and noticed that there was a rumbling vibration when accelerating, even slowly but nothing when foot off the accelerator. Rumbling seemed to get worse the more I was trying to accelerate. Car also seems a bit sluggish but that might just be me not wanting to push it whilst its rumbling.

Rear d/shaft seal is leaking but we checked the diff and that seems ok.

Any pointers?

Torque converter ? 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

England 2006 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Java Black

Check both front driveshafts, had a similar issue with my Sport the other week.

Couldn't locate the noise so took it a local indie (MM4x4) to get it looked at. About an hour after I dropped it off I got a call to say the nearside front inner cv joint was trashed and a little bit of play in the wheel bearing too.

1 driveshaft and wheel bearing later the rumble has gone as has the loud clunk which occasionally happened on up/down shifts. It would appear that the only thing that was holding it together was the CV boot Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked 2006 RRS HSE 2.7 TDV6 (The Baby one as I keep being told)

Try the manual shift find a decent hill then accelerate through the gears, does it only happen under load and in certain gears, if you ease up of the accelerator does the noise go and does it happen in only certain gear ranges?

Found a hill (all hills are decent where I live!) and gave it the beans through the gears. Nice smooth road too.

Grumbling/vibration not apparent up to NSL but there was a bit of a bang when I lifted my foot off the accelerator sharply. So possibly more d/shaft/diff/prop shaft/cv joint related?

Into the garage tomorrow for leaking rear d/shaft, rear arb hanger things, a couple of punctures (yes not only you HWN!) and whatever this is.

Thinking about it, there's also a knock when you put it in reverse and steer at the same time, so possibly CV joint.

Sounds very similar to mine. Ended up costing £450 all in so not too bad. Could've saved a bit not doing the wheel bearing, but as it was all apart it was only the extra for the part.

Good luck tomorrow, hope you can get it sorted. 2006 RRS HSE 2.7 TDV6 (The Baby one as I keep being told)

I’ve got a slight thump on/off the throttle and it’s been diagnosed as a little slack in the chain of the transfer box. 2006 2.7 TDV6 HSE in Cairns Blue.
