My drivers side turbo went pop on Saturday @ 107K miles. Oh well I got away with it for 10 years of ownership

My main interest in your post is that I guess that, more sooner than later, I'll have to have this job done, I can't speak with any knowledge to answer your question, but my gut feeling is that if you're going to have the body off, you should attempt to do everything you can afford to do. Certainly I'd do both turbos - if ones gone the other cant be far behind. There's probably other stuff that could be looked at???

At that age, I'd just replace both and be done with it. Be very annoying to get one done and then have the other one fail a few thousand miles later. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

am a bit curious, why do turbos cost so much? is it because its a body off job and that takes a while? i mean after the bodies off i assume you just bolt off the old turbos and bolt on new ones? am completely oblivious to how the jobs done so feel free to treat me like a moron |

Good question. I am sure the experts will come back with an answer, but I guess and element of it will be just that its a Range Rover! Robin

Would be worth checking the condition of the Active roll bar pipework too when the body is off. 2010 TDV8 - current - my first RRS, loving it so far......

The turbos are around a grand each so that £2k before you've started. Then it's a couple of hours plus each way to take the body off and replace it. That's a few hundred more depending on garage and hourly rates, obviously. Then chuck in the VAT and any bits that need to be renewed in the strip down and rebuild and you're up to £3k and more quite easily. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders 2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed |

For a grand each I think I'd use the opportunity to upgrade :p |
