With a bit more time on my hands and my RRS now moving, I have now repainted the silver trim on my side steps. It's not bodyshop quality or anything but a big improvement on how they looked before and not at all difficult to do.

That looks great, what did you use? Did you have to fill any pitted areas/use any primer or just spray pain straight on? Need to tidy mine up, only so far metal polish will go....

For the wheels I used Isopon P38 on the kerbing. Then just Halfords Etch Primer, followed by a silver paint (Mercedes Brilliant Silver in my case) and then Clear Lacquer. I was guided by many You Tube videos but the card trick with this one...

Here its being used today to touch up that new kerb rash I somehow managed to acquire!! (The cards are now silver as they've been used quite a bit what with 5 wheels already done.

I did something similar as I to lightly scotch brited my side steps and I recently did my lightly Kurbed alloy. Mine had only broken the powder coating, so as you I used varying grades of paper then used an enamel paint that I airbrushed.

I gave my car it’s pre-summer clean 2 weeks ago and even scotch brited the exhaust tail pipe that bends down. Looks like new (standard item). 2006 2.7 TDV6 HSE in Cairns Blue.

Absolutely. I took my wheels off to do them so that I could control the environment (my shed) whilst painting. I'm pleased with the result. Not a professional finish (I know because one of my wheels was buckled and so had to go away for full refurb) but quite good enough for me. And the full refurb was £150 so quite a saving to do the other 4 at around £50 all in! Time will tell if I have done a good job. Robin
