Hdc system fault and new starter motor

Hi,

I had a new starter motor fitted by my local mechanic following a dead RRS 2005 SC. Ever since I’ve been getting the hdc system fault and/or the ebrake error. It only lights up on starting the car and clears within a few seconds.

My question is do I need to replace the battery or brake switch?

At the point the car died the RAC tested the battery and the results are above.

Any guidance would be appreciated.

I had similar HDC errors when I purchased mine, engine always span over well and stated but kept getting warning lights whilst cranking. Checked the battery voltage while cranking and it was about 9volts, new battery and all is good, still only 10.5volts but no errors and engine spins faster.

10.5V ? Sounds like the alternator is dead. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

10.5V at rest, yes.. 10.5V during cranking, however, seems to be fairly normal - with a brand new battery and brand new Denso alternator (which isn't doing anything during cranking, really). Prior to battery change I also had 9V during cranking and the odd christmas-tree moment Smile

Pretty much all cars will drop well sub 12V during cranking due to the load of the starter - that's why, in days gone by, the ignition coil ballast resistor (which usually drops coil voltage to ~9V) would be taken out of circuit during cranking 2014 BMW 530d Touring, 2006 BMW 650i, 2018 Mini Cooper S
