England 2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Stornoway Grey
Warranty direct/ Landrover approved

Evening All. I have just purchased a 2014 sport Landrover approved. I have 12 months approved warranty and Landrover assist but I am concerned if the worst happened the warranty company won’t cover the crankshaft. I spoke to the warranty company and they told me straight that they don’t cover the crank. I tried to get in writing from the saleswoman that Landrover themselves would cover it but she says they couldn’t do that as they look at each case individually but would look after me if it did go ! My previous sport I had a policy with warranty direct and couldn’t fault them. They replaced the gearbox with no problems at all. Has anyone taken out a separate warranty direct policy to run alongside the Landrover approved warranty? I tried to get Landrover to remove their warranty and knock a bit off the price of the vehicle but they told me they can’t sell a vehicle without a warranty. Sorry for the long post. Cheers. L

That’s odd. I have an email from them saying the crank is covered. Catastrophic failure of the engine, would result in a replacement engine are the words used. I actually asked if the crank was covered and have the response in writing. This was last month. The only wiggle room they have after that, is if they decide it’s a “design flaw”, but I can’t see them doing that without JLR agreeing as it’ll be an end to their business model and a huge class action too no doubt.

Having said that I’ve just replaced the approved used warranty with a Warranty Direct policy, mostly down to the cost being waaaay more competitive. But my approved used has just ended too.

Did you buy it from a LR dealer, or 3rd party? MY15.5 HSE

Hi Dobby. Bought it from a Landrover dealer. Do you mean you have an email from Landrover themselves or from Landrover s warranty company ?

From the warranty company. I think they’re called Car Care Plan or similar. This was when I was considering extending the approved used warranty after the 2 years I got from the dealership with the vehicle. I went through their T&Cs and asked a load of questions, and to be fair they didn’t baulk at any of them. Crank is covered according to them. MY15.5 HSE

theres a whole different story over on Disco4. It seems more like the warranty won't cover it as its a known fault, however as long as you have followed all servicing properly (not sure if it needs to be a dealer) then LR will pay up whilst under warranty.
