What I don't get is why JLR do not give a warning that a re-gen is imminent/required?

If I was aware the re-gen was imminent then I would deliberately seek a decent motorway run and ideally force the re-gen on the basis this would be significantly more efficient than umpteen failed re-gen attempts and potential oil dilution.

Also I do a mix of short runs with less regular 100+mile runs and would like the option to initiate a re-gen when I know I am embarking on one of these longer runs. MY17 RRS 4.4d V8 Autobiography - Aintree Green (also referred to on Topix as British Racing Green)

You can use an IID to monitor certain Live Values that are indicators of regenerations

Yes, but why should we have to pull out our IID tool?
Toyota now include a screen notification in their diesels that a regen is in progress so why can't LR do it?
They had similar problems created by drivers being kept in the dark on regens.

Regen

“Average of 40 mph for 20 minutes? Can’t see that would produce any temperature in the filter, 42 mph is 1200 rpm in top gear on my SDV6, better to quote an RPM, saw a regen on a Vauxhall done stationary at 3000rpm to get the dpf to 6000c for a good half hour. Saying that, have had no problems with mine, live 2miles from a dual carriageway and plenty of hills! Never noticed regening.

Hi there
Just FYI... pre a 800 mile return trip to middle of France the miles to Oil Service showed 3500 , but hit zero (ie Oil Service required) once i'd got back to the border some 800 miles later. I'd driven most of the journey at speed but on cruise control to avoid any probs with the French speed traps. So it's not about speed, in fact even speed (c 85mph) on lowish revs as determined by the autobox seemed to be the problem.

So as Cornishman suggests its about speed in a lower gear and higher revs to get the dpf to hopefully burn off..... In the end I gave up and shifted to Lexus, though that's not been without issues either re the braking system. P400e HSE Portofino Blue and Ivory Seats.. it's like a yacht!!
Lexus traded in ..a total piece of crap
Boldly now acquired - a Lexus RX 450hL
BoldlyGone...Sep 15 MY16 RRS SDV6, HSE, Barolo Black, Espresso/Almond interior.. Best car ever & Drop dead gorgeous... sadly with fuel dilution headaches that became intolerable
Arrived 2014. Oct - Lemoned March 2015- RRS SDV6 HSE
Boldly Gone = Sold for 14k via Pistonheads - 2006 TDV6 SE Buck Blue/Almond int

2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Stornoway Grey

IIRC the 2015MY owners manual stated that a regen should be made at high revs / low gear at 40mph or above for at least 20 minutes........... that means putting the gearbox into manual mode to do it, preventing an upshift. There was a similar paragraph in my 2014MY Evoque’s manual as well. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

That's interesting, on my EU5 2012 dpf sdv6 usually 20 to 30 mins dual carriageway in D mode standard sorts it.

United Kingdom 2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 Autobiography Fuji White

Ive had my (Exhaust filter nearly full) message come on a few times & ive driven it on back roads in sport mode using the gears manually at around 4000 rpm & within about 10 miles the light goes out.Ive also had my snap-on diagnostics on to do a regen & within a mile or so it comes up with soot within limits. Andy.
