I think the dealer I bought my RRS HSE 2006 TDV6 from has been slightly misguiding. He told me that cam drive was by chain and therefore no need to change. All literature I can find says belt drive. Also trying to get appropriate lubes over here in Fuerteventura ( not easy), How do I tell if my rear diff is electronic or manual locking. TIA.

Yes there is a cambelt at the front of the engine. (if this breaks, it breaks the engine).
THere is also a belt on the back of the engine, which drives the fuel pump. Less important.


A lot of people also recommend changing the oil pump at the same, time. As if a metal mount on this fails, belt tension is also lost. Partially important if you have a late 2006 model.
All 2007 models suffer this

There are chains that connect the cams, they don't require maintenance. However, the camshafts are driven by a belt from the crankshaft, and that is rubber which does need regularly changing every 107k miles or 7 yrs which ever is sooner AFAIK. You don't want that to break. I take it he's not wanting to admit to it not being serviced properly.
