2.7tdv6 funny loud tapping noise

i was driving normally. then my rrs started to make a very loud ticking noise from the passenger front side of the engine like when you stick carboard into the spokes of your byicle as a kid.

And lots of blue smoke from the exhaust and there was hardly any oil left in it when checking by dipstick
.
diagnostics say its a imballance in cylinder 5???

any ideas please??? Big Cry Big Cry Big Cry Big Cry Big Cry Big Cry

No oil leaks that i can see

Hi I am not a mechanic but a quick search of the WWW gives this as a description..
your description shows as P0275 Cylinder 5 Contribution/Balance

"This is also a generic code, meaning it is common to all manufacturers.
The reference is the same, however, the manufacturer of a specific model may have experienced a defective part or error in installation.
Always access the technical service bulletins (TSBs) online for your specific year and make vehicle. Look for related TSBs and the factory recommended repair procedure.
The power-train control module (PCM) monitors the power output from each cylinder by comparing the acceleration or increase in speed of the crankshaft during the power stroke of each cylinder. When one or more cylinders are contributing less power than the rest of the cylinders, the fault code P0275 is set.

Not sure it helps other than a description of the error..

Good luck.. ===========================================

I think you need to do a compression test on No.5 cylinder first, lots of blue smoke means burning oil, nearly empty sump confirms that, could be a number of things like possibly broken piston ring, worn valve guide, possibly turbo issue. Personally I would start with the compression test and work from there.

Cheers

You can get an engine from landrover for about £4K with 2 year warranty.

Swap bits over from yours.

Talk to disco mike on D3

I guess you just walk into a dealer. And it arrives in a crate.

Swap over stuff and return old engine

Pretty much

£4095 + VAT, plus a £2000 + VAT surcharge (refundable on return of old unit)

Usually, needs to be returned within 2 weeks

Hi there,

Sorry to hear your dilemma; might be worth having a read of this:

https://www.which.co.uk/consumer-rights/ad...-my-rights

The key bit being:
"During the first six months after purchase, it's the responsibility of the seller to prove the fault wasn't there, not for you to prove that it was. "

HTH
