Purchased a new to me RRS four weeks ago (god this is painful) and have just been recovered home.

The car has very good service history and 103k on the clock and is a 2012 SDv6. I have put 2k on in the past few weeks so feel I have started to get to know the car a little...but this morning has me stumped (and worried).

Driving along a DC at 50mph with cruise set, the revs start running up but not the speed. I come off cruise and find that trying to accelerate over 2.5/3krpm gives a loss of additional acceleration very similar to clutch slip in a manual car and a few error messages on the dash. Fighting to get to the slip road to leave the DC I would have to turn the engine off and restart to clear the error messages, however, I would get so far and the point at which the "clutch slip" would start was getting lower 2.5k for a bit, then 2...1.5...1 and now no drive.

Called the RAC who did not even check the codes, just ordered a flatbed and after many hours this morning I am finally home and in a bit of a tiss about how much this may cost me. I was given a warranty by the dealer I purchased from, but its limited to £2k per claim and £45 per hour labour (where in the uk can you get that rate, let alone here in London!).

So the RAC guy said it sounded like there was no oil in the box, but there are no signed of leakage and I park on the street so can't confirm if there has been a leak....so what are the possibilities here?
Could I be looking at a full gearbox replacement? Or the TC? or could it be something stupid like just a clutch of some sort?

Any recommendations for a garage to look at this in west London (not MD as I assume their rates will be crazy) before I have a ring around in the morning?

Sorry to hear of your problems with the car.
You should take a good look at your rights under the latest consumer law and throw the problem back at the dealer who sold you the car. The warranty does not void any of your rights under consumer law. Basically the dealer has to be given one chance to fix it - at his cost and if you are not satisfied then you can demand a refund.

Response from the dealer when I messaged him about it breaking down was that the warranty should take care of it and that he will help with that as much as he can.

The article linked suggests he has more responsibility then this however....

Due to get it taken to a local transmission specialist who deal with land rovers tomorrow so will hopefully find out it’s not too bad, but of course fear the worst

No one got any thoughts on what it may be and how serious?

Don't let the dealer get away with abrogating his responsibilities by fobbing you off with the warranty con.
If you are very lucky it might be something as simple as a faulty brake light switch, brake light bulb or a failed sensor or water in the transfer box control module but it sounds serious.

Dealer wants it taken to a local garage he trusts (suspect he is still trying to put it in as a claim on the warranty which as long as he handles it all is fine).

Initial gut response from the garage is a failed clutch or a broken oil line over a hard mechanical part so here is hoping for a fast recovery....speaking of recovery still waiting for the RAC which was booked to collect a little after 9am

Is this the joy of owner a land rover and should I get on first name terms with the local recovery drivers? lol

Just in case anyone was interested....turns out this was not the gearbox itself.

Am looking at a replacement rear diff and drive shaft (as the splines were gone hence the grinding noise and in the oil in the diff).

Landers near Luton are currently looking after it and the dealer I bought the car from is making things happen. I am without a car for a good week waiting for this all to be done, but the silver lining is that I was due to have the timing belt done within 3k miles/two months so this is being done while waiting for the diff parts and saving another trip to a garage in the near future.
