Cliff,

You're as sad as me then, I could probably spot the local dealers from abstract pictures too!

Your guess is correct. I have to say, they like to do a deal on the big stuff, as I was told once, if they can sell a range rover, it gives them the money and room to buy in several Freelanders, which fly out the door.

They once offered me a 54 reg (when it was new) TD6 Vogue, Java with Sand, delivery miles, 10K off list! Bargain. Not sure why I didn't buy it actually. Shocked L319 D4 HSE

The Leicester dealer's counterparts in Cov..

Well don't EVER mention this forum/my name there.. they refuse to discount cars/bits from the showroom and their actual words: "We operate in an affluent area.. we don't have the 'need' to discount".. and then when the customer said, well i've got this deal from another LR dealer, they actually implied that he was lying/bluffing, and when he produced the signed order form (proposal) from the supplying dealer, the sales person had the DP ring up this other dealer, and ask what they were playing at giving deals like that away.. it was hardly criminal discount, just a good package from a friendly dealer, (cough cough.. Kaine's supplying dealer.. Wink ) so if you mention our name, you'll either have them cut to the chase and do you a decent (normal) deal, or they will tell you to get stuffed and won't accomodate you at all.. Embarassed Wink

Its a buyers market and with the internet and all.. its for dealers to act in this way..
Think on average we win at least one client a month from their initial harsh prices.. so thanks!

not sure we're talking about the same dealership Kam, the one I am buying mine from is Sturgess in Leicester, they are one of the few family owned dealers left.

Coincidentally, it's also the same dealership my dad has bought his Range Rovers from since his very first 2 door back in the mid 70's.

The plan is to keep this new one until the warranty runs out (about 2 yrs left). Then there should be plenty of the TDV8 cars around for sale second hand.

Who knows though, I may grow to love this one so much I keep it longer. I'm really looking forward to it now.

RRUK - R U really sure about the TD6 ? That engine is a Massey Ferguson compared to the more modern TDv6 or TDv8 engines. Its way under powered for the vehicle and in my experience only did 22mpg.

Its very frustrating to drive such a prestigious car with such a whimpy engine in it.

I had one for 4 months and hated it Big Cry

Smarticus,

I know exactly what you are saying I agree, the TDV6 and TDV8 are both very superior engines, but that would have meant SPENDING money to change the car. My objective was to get a different car and get money back from the dealer. The Sport TDV6 HSE's are still too high in value 2nd hand to get cheap enough, as are the TDV8 RR.

I've driven the RR P38 2.5 DT and let me tell you, NOTHING can ever seem bad after that car. Compared, the TD6 is like a floating carpet. Very Happy

Like I said, when the warranty runs out or I have put too many miles on it I'll then look and see what the 2nd hand TDV8's are going for. I took a massive hit in depreciation buying the SC, I'd never bought a completely brand new car before, I'm not sure I'd do it again when someone else can take that initial massive hit on the car.

I went from driving an M5 to the RRS SC, and although the performance is good, its nowhere near M5 class. I just alter my driving style to suit the car I buy. With the TD6 I'll be a cruiser for a while, but at least I won;t be doing 15mpg while I'm at it! L319 D4 HSE

Ireland 2007 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Java Black

I had a FFRR TD6 for 4 years , did 110 K miles in it. The engine is the loudest diesel I've ever had and teh fuel ecomony was rubbish , 21.5 on average, if its was the only option I;d buy the petrol version. Compared to the TDv6 abd TDv8 its ancient. Currently waiting for my RRs TDV8 ( was buying a FFRR TDV8 but had to wait till april, test drove a TDv6 RRs for two weeks and was one over).

RRS TDv8 expected tomorrow. RRS HSE TDV8 Java black/Ebony interior, mud flaps,20" stormers, towing, roofrack, sunroof, cooler V8 Tasmods Sills, black badges, carstyling java black vents
