Whilst the LR Extended Warranty sounds good, wait till you try to claim. My daughters 2011 Sport has a leaking exhaust crossover pipe. The immediate response from LR Warranty was that it is part of the exhaust system and was not covered. It was pointed out to them that the crossover pipe actually formed part of the manifold system as it connects the exhaust manifold to the turbos. They then said it was not covered due to wear and tear! The vehicle has covered 78,000 miles and this sort of problem is not acceptable.

I would strongly advise against the LR Warranty as they will use every excuse to avoid paying out.

The end result is that my daughter is moving from the LR brand as am I. There have ben too many problems with my 2017 Sport I also will be changing brand.

It is such a shame a basically good product is spoilt by unreliability and poor customer support

Had a similar experience myself Censored

I also had a crossover pipe leak within 1 month from purchase - fought hard and very frustrated but LR wouldn’t cover it under warranty. In fact the dealer was negligent and messed up the repair bookings, did nothing for 2 weeks, gave it back to me to rebook, took 3 months to get it back in and they said it was ok to drive. But caused even more heat damage to the fuel pump belt so body off job cost me a fortune on top of the warranty cost! Argh.

Mine came with warranty from Marshall Land Rover in Peterborough, which I have renewed every year since. £349 for the year, or £34.90 a month over 10 months. Just about to renew for the fourth year, and price has never changed Smile
Had a couple of claims, but never any drama. Yes it's covered, or no it's not (suspension bushes) and the repair was done.
Instrument cluster changed (LED backlight on tacho needle failed), MAF sensor, and air suspension compressor. Other odds and sods I do myself or it goes to my indy... You can't see the eyes of the demon until him come callin'

Regarding warranty direct, their ‘core’ policy looks to cover the big heavy hitting things that could and seemingly do go wrong.

Has anyone had experience of Warranty Direct when it comes to the dreaded crankshaft failure?

Hi,
yes they should cover the crank, understand they have replaced a complete engine as well Shocked
they also cover suspension bushes under wear and tear covered after 90 days.

price is very miles dependant took out a 3 year policy on ours all options/uncapped/£50 excess/zero contribution £1400, which you can get refunded if you sell the car Thumbs Up

Dont forget the Recommend a Friend Whistle we both get a bit back if you do, see one of my other posts Whistle

Dont forget the "landrover approved" warranty is still an insurance policy operated by Care Plan and not Landrover and they Dont cover the crank or wear and tear either Evil or Very Mad Porsche Cayenne 2022
gone Porsche Cayenne 2020
gone Corris Grey HSE Dynamic 2016
gone Ipanema HSE lux 2010
gone Rimini HSE 2005

Thank you for that, most helpful; it would seem the Warranty Direct product is better than the LR Warranty then??

Just read your other post, will drop you a message.

Have a look at Motor Easy, reasonably priced and cover things others don't. My 2010 3.0TDV6 with 72k costs £800 and I pay nothing towards parts, £50 excess.

Thank you for that, just having a look now - interesting that they cover suspension components as standard in their warranty as oppose to WD who offer that as a cost option.

Looking at Plan B and Plan B Lite - cover seems the same it just differs on the location of the breakdown or failure; Plan B covers you anywhere whereas Plan B Lite covers you away from home.

Lovely lady just called and went through all the specifics of the warranty, I have to say it sounds really comprehensive and quite specific that it covers wear and tear AND consequential damage so if something fails which isn't covered but it sfailure then damages something that is, they will still cover that item.

Doing 13 months for the price of 12 as well which is good plus a free visual health check which means no 90 days period of grace and all aspects of warranty kick off straight away.

Interesting!

I think I have plan B. One good point from my perspective, I bought my motor in july this year with a 6 month garage supplied warranty a pretty poor warranty to be honest so I looked at Motor Easy. They allowed me to set up their warranty to run alongside the supplied one BUT, in the event of me not needing the M E warranty within the 1st 6 months of ownership and whilst I had the suppliers one, they would start the 12 month cover from month 7, however if I needed it because the supplied one wouldn't cover something then I could. I also was given a no contribution clause added so I only pay the £50 excess.

The free health check is done at a Halfords Auto Centre, had mine done straight away but you can choose somewhere else if you wish Thumbs Up

To be honest it seems a really good product, I had never heard of them before but lady was really nice not pushy or anything on the phone.

Did you elect to use their network of repairers or choose your own?

Can't remember but I probably went for the one that keeps my costs down. There website has a "dashboard" where you input your mot/insurance/service details for the car and it keeps a log and sends you reminders. I too was impressed by there none pushy attitude and instead of bad mouthing other companies they just sold themselves to me.

I paid my £800 over 4 installments which was a big help too.

I chose Warranty Direct as their cover was good and better price than most others. Motor Easy was also competitive but is a new company that appears not to be part of any group and its latest balance sheet (lodged at Companies House) is very small for an insurance type company. Whereas W.D. is a wholly owned subsidiary of PariBas Bank and is significantly better underwritten as such. That i.m.o. makes W.D. much more able to stand claims for expesive items like RRS engines.

Just a quick one on the health check, was it a visual inspection around the car or a lot more in depth? The lady gave the impression it was more visual check of levels, signs of leaks, damage etc.
