I have been looking at the excellent post by Boost re removing a turbo without lifting the body.
As I set about removing bits from my TDV8 I realised that the aforementioned post was for the passenger side turbo.
So far i have got the upper wishbone off, accessable heatshields out, bottom shields out and bottom crossmember out.
Hopefully in the next two days I will have the exhaust system out.
I'm in no rush with this job

So, has anyone out there managed to change out a drivers side turbo, without lifting the body.

Ok got the exhaust off, I was expecting oil in the exhaust and turbo but there was none and the turbo feels pretty free.
I know there is oil in the inlet side as ive had the flexible camera down the inlet pipe and it came back up covered in oil.
im guessing the oil seal has gone on the inlet side only, is this poss.

Didn't know you could remove the turbo on the V8 body on.

There will always be oil in the turbo inlet.

Drain it out the intercooler. Flush with petrol if you want.
Drive it for a month. Inspect intercooler pipes. If there is minimal oil, its fine

There was a lot of white smoke coming out the exhaust and it happened very suddenly.
when I put the camera down the turbo inlet pipe it came out dripping with oil.

can oil get into the air inlet anywhere else apart from the turbo.

The driver's side turbo has the crankcase breather outlet plumbed in to its inlet pipe. The breather system has an oil separator in it (up in the V at the backend of the engine) that is supposed to remove oil but no doubt some will get through.

Isnt there a mod, factory tsb fix to sort this?

Smoke from both exhausts?

Thanks for the info, I hope that is the problem as it would save me removing the turbo, which may not be poss anyway.
i will take off the pipe and have a look.

what can go wrong with the crankcase breather system that would cause a large amount of oil to be dunped into the air inlet.
