As the title suggests I am wondering what people's view is on whether its better to have a Petrol RRS or Diesel nowadays given the current dislike by .gov of diesels.

In particular, for regular daily use 15k+ miles a year. would you have a 3.6 TDV8 or a 4.2 S/C?


Obviously the V* give better mpg but the fuel, where I live can be as much as 3p/ltr more for diesel.
My current daily driver is my RX8 which on a good is gives ~25mpg avg.

Just looking for points of view really as I am still considering an RRS as replacement to the Rx8.

For big heavy cars like Land Rover products and most SUV’s diesel is still the way to go I think, Euro6 and later diesels are much cleaner than anything that has gone before and they are more fuel efficient, but how they are used is a major factor in the Govt thinking - why on this earth does somebody need a huge SUV to take their beloved children to school a mile away? Why do people need one to drive 2 miles to the station then leave it parked all day? 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

mine is a 10 mile trip with some dual carriageway but the 13 is mostly round town have had 20 on a steady run

Back and to work, mainly bypass, 25 miles round trip I can get around 17 mpg...usually using cruise. Steve.

on the lower side of what the book says then. Although I suspect that you guys may be doing more town/city driving that I would be doing.
I think my '98 SWB 3.0 V6 Shogun returned about 19mpg.

Its a tough call, cuz you never know what the gov is gonna throw at car owners next.

has anyone had either a TDV8 or a 4.2 S/C mapped/chipped to improve mpg, if so how much difference did make? I have seen remaps that claim to improve power and mpg but always been a bit sceptical of the claims.

You dont get both as the extra power you get just makes you smile more

I've done a best of 33mpg (A9, average speed cameras) and, on a road somewhere or other, well under 20 mpg ragging the danglies off my SDV6

I have never seen above 11mog in my 4.2 supercharged

I think as mentioned somewhere above, diesel is best for these big 4x4's (unless its your toy, in which case you probably don't care about mpg). For me it will be the daily driver and and family adventure wagon.

11mpg round London sounds about right. I dont think anything would give good economy round there!
