You'll have to peel off the VA and Mrs VA sticker - that'll increase the value!

I recently asked my local Land Rover Main Dealer how the sudden upsurge in "global warming hysteria" would affect resale values? He told me it wouldn't, primarily because the the Range Rover Sport remains a highly desireable, much sought-after prestige vehicle in an entirely separate top-end market. Also, the TDV6 was actually a reasonably eco-friendly diesel (?) whilst the gas-guzzling petrol models, along with other less prestigious 4x4 marques such as Toyota, Jeep, etc, would be the most likely candidates to suffer. However, I do suspect the new TDV8 must have an initial negative impact on overall values, although share the view things will probably settle-down and buoy-up again once people realise it's a lot more money for very little extra performance (get your TDV6 get rechipped, cheaper alternative and works wonders).

Afraid my dealer rather cannily has a policy of not confirming a trade in value until the new vehicle is confirmed as built. Guess they have been caught out before with delayed deliveries.... My TDv6 is in "clean" condition (or it would be if someone gave it a good wash and brush out ) but she has done 21,000 miles in 12 months. On balance £37,000 isn't therefore a rubbish price, its just the sense of the "goal posts" having moved that troubles me. Does anyone know what profit margin a dealer has in a TDv8 selling for full list (£53,000). I guess it must be about £3,500 - £4,000 ? I was perhaps hoping too much to ask them to use some of their margin to improve my deal.... RRS TDv8 HSE Rimini Disco 4 TDv6 HSE Ipanema Defender 90, 200tdi CSW |

I believe circa £3-5k is probably the correct mark-up, but you're always better-off selling privately (if you have the time and patience)? After all, dealers are in this business purely to make maximum profit and are definitely NOT noted for their altruism or benevolence?? I wonder if they've suddenly slashed their forecourt prices as a consequence of this apparent "drop" in value? Hmmm, now call me an old cynic , but I think not!!! |

From what I understand boats take a lot bigger hit than cars. The figures you mentioned seem normal, at least here. |

Sorry i should of said that they are narrow boats, and usually you will see an appreciation in value over a reasonable length of time(if kept in good condition). Not so at the moment though, When house prices are high it has a direct link to boat prices, as people are looking at alternative methods of living accomadition, but as house prices have levelled off so have the boat prices. With the rise in the interest rate recently we might see sales picking up some of my Previous cars -------------------------------- P38 Range Rover Autobiography RRS 2.7 HSE Silver RRS TDV8 HSE silver FFRR Vogue black Disco3 HSE silver RRS 2.7 HSE silver RRS 3.0 HSE BALTI BLUE ______________________________ current vehicles RRS 3.0 L494 Autobiography Audi R8 V10 Spyder AC Cobra Landrover Defender 90 Landrover Defender 110 Suzuki Jimney |
