You'll have to peel off the VA and Mrs VA sticker - that'll increase the value! Laughing

United Kingdom 2012 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Sumatra Black

I recently asked my local Land Rover Main Dealer how the sudden upsurge in "global warming hysteria" would affect resale values? He told me it wouldn't, primarily because the the Range Rover Sport remains a highly desireable, much sought-after prestige vehicle in an entirely separate top-end market. Also, the TDV6 was actually a reasonably eco-friendly diesel (?) whilst the gas-guzzling petrol models, along with other less prestigious 4x4 marques such as Toyota, Jeep, etc, would be the most likely candidates to suffer. However, I do suspect the new TDV8 must have an initial negative impact on overall values, although share the view things will probably settle-down and buoy-up again once people realise it's a lot more money for very little extra performance (get your TDV6 get rechipped, cheaper alternative and works wonders).

On the issue of popularity, I dont feel single-handedly responsible for the decline of the universe and haven't yet encountered levels of resentment above that which I experienced whilst driving a Porsche 911, Jaguar XK8 or Mercedes SL500. So, my conscience is clear, and hopefully so is my wavering resale value???? Confused

I suppose in hindsight, you should really have got the trade-in value in writing with clarification that it would not change if there was a situation such as this (which, let's be honest, is not at all unusual).

Afraid my dealer rather cannily has a policy of not confirming a trade in value until the new vehicle is confirmed as built. Guess they have been caught out before with delayed deliveries....

My TDv6 is in "clean" condition (or it would be if someone gave it a good wash and brush out Very Happy ) but she has done 21,000 miles in 12 months. On balance £37,000 isn't therefore a rubbish price, its just the sense of the "goal posts" having moved that troubles me.

Does anyone know what profit margin a dealer has in a TDv8 selling for full list (£53,000). I guess it must be about £3,500 - £4,000 ? I was perhaps hoping too much to ask them to use some of their margin to improve my deal.... RRS TDv8 HSE Rimini

I believe circa £3-5k is probably the correct mark-up, but you're always better-off selling privately (if you have the time and patience)? After all, dealers are in this business purely to make maximum profit and are definitely NOT noted for their altruism or benevolence?? I wonder if they've suddenly slashed their forecourt prices as a consequence of this apparent "drop" in value? Hmmm, now call me an old cynic , but I think not!!! Wink

Big mistake, asking a saleperson for an honest opinion on anything Laughing

Typical OZ car sales lines;

You trading in : Used car demand is pretty low at the moment
Them reselling it : Can't get enough of these at the moment

You trading in : If it had lower k's we could do a better trade in
Them reselling it : This is below average K's for this model

You trading it in : Best we can do is $55,000
Them reselling it : No, can't do $75,000 that is below cost to us

You trading in: We don't make much margin on the deal
Them reselling : We don't make much margin on the deal

Very, very tired old lines... Rolling Eyes RRS TDV6 Bluetooth, VR, Roof

Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing , i accuatly hear myself saying all of that to my customers when they are either selling or buying a boat Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing

I will be trying to think of some new lines.

Changinig the subject very slightly, boat sales are down and they have been for the last 12 months, prices have fallen massively, in a 12 month period i have seen people loose between £10 to 50k on a sale just to get rid of there boat. recently i bought a 12 month old boat, cost new 70k bought it for 30k,and a guy offered me a boat thet wasnt even 12 months old with abot 150 hours on the clock, cost him 85k, he was happy to take 45k.

I wonder if the same as car prices, everything seems to be slowing down. some of my Previous cars

From what I understand boats take a lot bigger hit than cars. The figures you mentioned seem normal, at least here.

Sorry i should of said that they are narrow boats, and usually you will see an appreciation in value over a reasonable length of time(if kept in good condition). Not so at the moment though, When house prices are high it has a direct link to boat prices, as people are looking at alternative methods of living accomadition, but as house prices have levelled off so have the boat prices. With the rise in the interest rate recently we might see sales picking up some of my Previous cars
