Brake Fluid Change

My car was in for a recent 3rd year service (it has a 5 year service plan) It has only done 6000 miles. They said that as well as the service it would require a brake fluid change as this was recommended by Land Rover, but this is a chargeable item £54 & is not included in the service plan. I argued that if it was required by Land Rover it should be included in the service but they said no, its chargeable. Whats going on here, the service requires certain things done, ie oil, filters etc then they decide to add other items & charge for them. Either its service item or not. Has anyone else been charged for this & your thoughts on thi.s

It's fairly normal that the brake fluid change is an extra when I used to take my jag to the dealer.

Can't be that important then can it.

Just say no thank you most of the time

When my 14 went in for its 3 year service they said it needed brake fluid changing,,I told them not to bother & when I got back home I checked it & it was in the green on my tester,so nothing wrong with it.

Andy,

What tester is this? Is it something to add to the toolbox or via the facilities at work?

No brake fluid changes included on a Land Rover service plan?

Are they caring even less about customers than usual?

I didn't know they weren't included that's pretty harsh IMO

You should check the terms and conditions on the service plan. I can't find the complete document online but the Land Rover website blurb says Service Plans cover the cost of ALL SCHEDULED SERVICING. If the service schedule requires a brake fluid change then it's black and white; the cost should be covered by the plan.

After reading this post I decided I wasn't having it, emailed my dealer and got an answer for you.

All scheduled service items are covered (apart from wear and tear items) so brake fluid changes are 100% covered by the plan. I suggest the technician has confused brake fluid with brake discs/pads.

Definitely go back and ask for money back

Is this the same for non service plan services, where I'd expect if it is on LR's 'to do' list then it would be done as part of that service? Or do dealers get to cherry pick what they want to do according to the price payed? And on this I'd be expecting that fluids whether brake fluid or oils were covered within the service price?

Extract from Service/Maintenance Sheet, note item No.9 asterisk get out clause. It's also stated in the Service History Book, this is for a RRS1 not sure about RRS2.

Adjust/Lubricate/Replace - Labour cost included in scheduled time except items marked *
Check - After the checking procedure, cleaning, adjusting, repairing or replacing is subject to extra labour and material cost.

8. Inspect brake pads for wear, calipers for leaks and disks for condition

9. Replace brake fluid (Every 3 years)*

Cheers

Why do people insist on using LR dealerships for servicing? The plans are obviously a con as they work hard to charge for everything other than the oil and filter. The work done will doubtless be substandard too so they'll be doing bad things to your vehicle in the name of servicing.

Cultivate a relationship with a decent indie. Someone who cares about the work he does because it's his name over the door. LR dealerships don't deserve your time or money. Avoid them like the plague. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Of course you're right, an indie probably does perform a better service.

I wonder how LR's 'goodwill' towards a broken crank would go when not using an approved service centre?

Was told brake fluid needs to be changed every 3 years and mine is due to be done. I only phoned up to book it for an MOT.
It went very quiet on the other end of the line when I said the car is only just 5 years old and when I was at school 3 + 3 made 6 so surely it's not due till next year.

I'm guessing the main dealer needs some work ! 2017 SVR. SVO Scafell grey Ebony interior
