My insurance is due for renewal and so I have been looking around to ensure I get a good deal. I am currently with Aviva and have declared the fact that I fitted side steps to my car a year or so ago. This forum has mentioned NFU Mutual and so I made sure I contacted them for a quote. I mentioned the side steps and they said no problem but they would have to check with their underwriters. BUT, it now transpires that because I fitted them, I need to get an engineers report before they will even quote

I declared mine to NFU and they just asked for a picture, then said fine!

I had the same from NFU when insuring my Defender a few year ago. When I asked who an engineer was they said a letter from any VAT registered garage saying it was fitted safely was enough.
