Veru Strange Noise.

Hi all.

New to the forum. Had a read of afew posts but cant find anything in relation to my problem. Lol

I have a 2008 3.6tdv8. Everything working fine up until the oil is at optimum temperature and accelerating past 50mph. A squeaking noise begins. This is only on acceleration and hard acceleration or going up hill. Also this only happens when the oil it at temperature.

Had a couple of people say turbos etc. But i was baffelled as it only happens when oil is at temperature and accelerating plus only over 50mph. Surely it would happen all the time if it was turbos?

Any info will be greatly appreciated.

Also lile to add i have no loss of power at all.

A squeak or a constant noise like a whistle?
When you say oil temp, do you just mean temp on the dash?
Is there any black smoke related to this?

I wonder if it's an EGR actuator if it's temp related. The EGRs don't open until the engine is up to temp. They obviously close when you accelerate but a problem with an EGR (or turbo) should throw an error code and / or have a performance hit. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Hi. Yes when the gauge is at temperature the noise when accelerating starts all the wag through acceleration. Its the sound of like at alternator belt when cars are started on a morning and its slipping. But i know its not that because its only when i accelerate and then it only starts above 50. Once started it happens all the time until i slow right down around town then only on hard acceleration it starts again.

Hope its an easy fix lol

Also there are no faults. I have had it into a garage and i firstly expected a hose but they cant see anything and just suspected the turbo straight away. But i prefer a different option before having to go down that route.

You say at over 50mph does it seem to be engine or drive related ? Reason I ask is I had similar noticed it on hills like Sutton bank then I changed the torque converter earlier this year and haven't heard the noise since 2008 G4 RRSport TDV8 current

Only when i accelerate on the drivers side. When i am not accelerating there is no noise at all.

The TDV8's are known for warping the exhaust manifolds and snapping the studs could be that as the exhaust expands when warm 2008 G4 RRSport TDV8 current

Ah great so manifold replacement?

Thinking about it though wouldnt it happen everytime i accelerate if it was coming from the manifold?

The sound is like when you blow up a balloon and let the air out by pulling the end to make the squeak noise.

It isnt affecting the performance of the car. It is one of those noises that if i keep going is it going to just go bang. Lol

IT was always at the back of my mind was a turbo going to let go but 2 years and 20000 miles later as I say seemed to go after I changed the torque converter maybe just a coincidence did have the exhaust off might be worth checking the flange bolts as the fasten directly onto the turbo could be blowing on the offside 2008 G4 RRSport TDV8 current

Ok mate thanks.

Just been to a LR specialist and he said it is almost like the water pump has gone. Reason being that obv it is only happeng when its at temperature. Worth a try first i suppose.

Also i have notoced the coolant disappearing so topped it up and then i will see. Hope it is the water pump and nothing serious.

Just confusing it only happening at temperature and when i accelerate.

The exhaust manifolds are body off and they are also about £600 each. Annoyingly, the manifolds on the FFRR can't be used but they are a fraction of the price. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
