Kick down not working correctly on 4.2 Supercharged

Evening all... I've had a good search but most posts are deisel related and solutions mostly EGR related, as mine is a 2006 4.2 Supercharged my problem certainly isn't EGR. Sooooo I can be cruising at 60-70ish and when I put my foot down hard past the kick down it doesn't drop gears at all for a good few seconds (feels like forever) I've only had it a week so not really sure how long it has been doing it, but my old TDV8 I had a while back never had this delay.
Regardless of S/H I am going to do an ALL fluids change in the next few weeks (I do it with any used car I buy) But I'm thinking this could be some sort of settings fault... for example on my M3 SMG to reset the gearbox settings you hold both paddles for so many seconds, is there anything similar on the RRS?
I have just received my IIDTool BT but haven't had a chance to use it properly and learn much from it yet!

Many thanks
Wilson

I think petrols do have egr.

Are you pressing the Pedal hard into the carpet?

Give sport mode a go. Simply more lever to the left. Don't move up or down.
Good for joining the motorway.

Really??? I have always related EGR to diesels!!!

Yep, all the way to the floor past the kick down click, I have used sport but honestly I don't normally!

Thanks

Good morning all,
I reset the transmission using the IIDTool thingy, and it appears to have resolved the issue so far, it hasn't had the long confused type delay since, although it does seem to take around a second to kick down (not in sport) I assume this is just how they are normally???

(Just adding my fix for future searches)

The gearbox adapts to how you normally drive, so when you clog it and it's not kicking down quickly enough thats a sign that you normally drive the car quite sedately (always a positive) so the computer interprets it as an accidental press. Theres not really anyway around this other than driving like a nutter the whole time or having the engine re-mapped and throttle response tightened.
I personally kick across into sport mode before overtaking or doing anything daft as it automatically kicks down a gear and holds the revs higher Smile

yeah it's always smoother and quicker that you select the lower gear (e.g by moving it to over to sport) before you put the pedal down.

I wouldn't say it's smoother, it's just more predictable. When in drive, if I stomp the throttle sometimes it'll launch, and others it won't. Putting it in sport the car is in no doubts as to what you want it to do haha

if you've only had it a week i would say its more likely what socast has said. If the previous owner drove it nice and steady all the time, the computer would have this all logged still. So curing it with a reset with your tool makes sense as it would have deleted the previous owners settings Smile
