Main Dealer Service.

Simple questions,
Would you expect your Main Dealer to run a quick diagnostic to check for faults when the car serviced.

I checked my car for faults prior to being serviced, thought I will not clear them, lets just see what the Dealer does, in my case the car came out with 12 Faults, 2 more than when it went in Whistle In Spain - 2018 F Pace - Frightened away from the Sports due to crank failures

I've also experienced the same. More faults on return than prior to sending the car in. They don't bother and will only investigate if there is a specific complaint. Certainly don't clear the faults. This is based on 2 different dealers that I use. Current: Volvo XC90 T8 Inscription Pro PHEV with some optionals on top

That then begs the questions "Did they even perform the service?" - can you name and shame them? With remote reading dipsticks these days it is difficult to see if the service agents even bother to change the oil......... 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Yes I will name them, however I am still trying to clear one issue with them first. My car had a suspension fault C1A13-64 Fault logged on the 14th July and I am waiting to see what they say as 14th was the Last day of my Land Rover Approved Warranty. I have sent them screen shots of the Faults.

I guess I would expect other manufacture too (or even then, if the customer didn't complain about a dash light being on, why waste labor on it that isn't authorized)

But the landrover throws up so many faults over a year than can be ignored, you can't see the wood for the trees.
What would you do? Print off a worrying list and give to the customer and say this needs investigation, that will be £400 ?

^ That is very rational and I would agree. My only issue is, without clearing the faults and checking afterwards (say followed by a road test), would they really know if those are just harmless spurious faults as a result of a software update (for example) or a new problem they have created? Current: Volvo XC90 T8 Inscription Pro PHEV with some optionals on top

Haha Rolling with laughter Read back what you just wrote "without clearing the faults and checking afterwards, would they really know if those are just harmless spurious faults as a result of a software update or a new problem they have created?"

Why would LR admit to anything!? If they clear codes they could be accused of trying to hide faults, but as Andy has already said, they will do the minimum to save costs on wasted time pulling and printing fault codes for the customer to ignore them.

Going by that, why even bother checking ANYTHING following work done on a car? No road test, no verification of whether the repair is successful ... just call the customer and get them to collect the car as soon as the bolts are tightened Rolling Eyes I didn't say just clear the faults and return the car. I meant clear and check if faults come back. Makes sense to me. Current: Volvo XC90 T8 Inscription Pro PHEV with some optionals on top

Info back from the Main dealer.
To try to cover this new problem we have to notify the information to extended warranty Company before the end of Contract term.
Normally we have to send: a copy of service book, a copy of our order repair, a quotation. With the information in their hands they answer us if it´s necessary to send an expert or directly they can authorize the repair.

So the 2 years Approved Warranty is maybe only 50 weeks. Whistle This allows 2 weeks to identify the fault, book the car into the dealer, let them do their bit (as stated above) So in my case tuff luck Big Cry

As for reading stored faults, why would they bother, even though they have to connect the car up via diagnostic port in order to reset the service indicator. Maybe this why Land Rover Service charges are so low Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter In Spain - 2018 F Pace - Frightened away from the Sports due to crank failures

I forgot to add, the car is 6 years old, 80k Kilometers (50k miles) Just had the car serviced Got the car back on the 9th July, had new brake pipes fitted as recommended by Land Rover, early I know, but also had the Cam Belt changed, not sure if they road tested the vehicle or not or checked the engine compartment after the above work was completed however I had to add 2 litres of water to the vehicle the following day, informed the dealer, they said more than likely an air lock.

Thinking, is it worth informing Land Rover Customer Services. Whistle In Spain - 2018 F Pace - Frightened away from the Sports due to crank failures

It's the same regardless of where you go.

My sport was in at Land Rover Taunton to have the suspension recalibrated, when running the recalibration it finished the compressor off (It was on it's last legs, but not really the point). The garage didn't say a word to me about the failure, just gave me the keys and let me leave. When I got out to the car I noticed the front end was on the bump stops but thought nothing of it. Fired the car up, waited a min for the front to lift and went on my way. About 10 mins down the road and I get an error on the dash stating that the compressor had been switched off due to over heating. Drove home (roughly 10/15 min drive), switched the car off and started it up again to see if the fault came back which sure enough it did. I called the dealers and they said it was nothing to do with them and that it had worked fine when they had it..

Since that day I've only ever used the dealers for getting part numbers and prices.
