Radio Interference!

We have had our car now for nearly 8 weeks, however, there is an intermitant seriously annoying problem.
Twice now (including this morning) i have started the car and driven off but when I turn on the radio all i get is a very loud morse code/aerial interference sound coming out of all the speakers (crackling). It does not go away either by turning the radio off and back on again or by pulling over and restarting the car.
It sounds as if the aerial lead has become disconnected.

The journey this morning was only 5 minutes long but my passengers had to put their fingers in their ears for the whole journey.
When I returned to the car later, all is fine and dandy once again.

This is a serious problem as if we are on a longer journey it would render the car undriveable.

I am seriously concerned because of the very nature of the fault, when it goes into a dealer to get this fixed, it will probably not happen and will therefore not be cured. Big Cry

Has anyone else heard of this fault before can give me some advice please?

Just a thought, but the mornings when you have had the interference haven't coincided with using either the front screen demist program (blows hot air to screen and activates heated front and rear screens) or with using the heated rear screen? The ariel is part of the rear screen and if you have a bad earth there it will cause the interference you describe which will only be there when the heated rear screen is energised.

Hi,
No, nothing else is turned on. Odd thing is that it stays on even when the radio is off so it's always there until you stop and turn the engine off!

This happened to me on a previous TDV8 for no apparent reason.
I started the engine and got what sounded like a pirate radio station with very bad reception coming through the speakers. The noise continued even when the radio was switched off as well. Shocked

I drove the car for about ten minutes then stopped and switched the engine off for about 10 minutes and the sound had gone - and never returned Confused
The other strange thing when i switched off there was a definate high pitched single tone coming from somewhere in the car that i could hear from outside - go figure! When I returned the noise had stopped and the CD and radio worked as normal....

This only happened once so i never had to try to get it fixed. Confused

Apparently there is a TSB for this so it's booked in for Tuesday. We will see what happens.

This is my experience with this fault so far.
Bearing in mind that it is a very intermittant fault.....serious fault if it was to come on again whilst driving. Phoned the first dealer, booked the car in explaining the fault and was told that if it didn't occur when they had the car then it would be returned to me in the same condition. Once I explained that it has only happened 4 times in 8 weeks, i was told that they could arrange to keep it 'long term' in the hope of the fault appearing.

Wasn't too happy about this for obvious reasons.......

Telephoned the second dealer and was told that they had not heard of this before but would contact a technician.
Received a phone call a few hours later saying that there was in fact a TSB for this and to book it in to get it sorted.
i did this and fingers crossed after a download and re boot etc the fault was to do with the amplifier receiving some sort of charge from startup.

I was pleased and it just goes to show that not all dealers are the same!!!!!

I have the very same intermittent symptom in my 2011 HSE, which has occurs approximately once a month, the latest time yesterday. The crackling white noise cannot be cleared except by turning off the ignition and waiting maybe 15 minutes minimum. So, if it happens on a long trip, I'm stuck with it,. Did anyone here get it fixed, and if so how?

If this sorts it out, perhaps you could be kind enough to obtain the TSB number from your garage and post it here for the information of our members. Thumbs Up

Could try this one issued 09/2010 LTB00299 but may not be the one as relates to Infotainment System Inop/Locking Up.

Cheers
