'New' MY16 RRS2 HSE Dynamic - first impressions

New car arrived yesterday evening having been driven a couple of hundred miles from the LR dealer I bought it from them.

They took away my 12 year old (yesterday) RRS 4.2 Supercharged so sad to see it go as it was my second RRS1 and I had it for 6 years!

As the driver pulled up on my drive I noticed the rear alloy had been kerbed more that 3/4s of the wheel circumference. I asked the driver is that typical for nearly new cars to be delivered like that and then called LR. I was told they check the car over with the driver before it leaves, so I suspect it was done on the way. I've sent photos as requested and I hope to hear back this morning as to how it's going to be dealt with.

Next thing I noticed were the swirl marks on the pillars - awful. Seems common from a read through this forum. Will need machine polishing, and fortunately I have one.

Next thing I noticed was the seal on the drivers side A Pillar - the seal was on the outside half way up and then crossed over to the inside. Checked the other side and it wasn't consistent so checked further and could see the pillar trim was loose at the top. Doesn't seem to 'press clip' back on and feeling the reverse it appears to be held on with a double sided sticky sponge! Have fixed it back in place and will keep an eye on it. I could see grease marks from 3 fingers on the door right next to the A Pillar so wonder if they tried to sort it before it left.

The car was a bit grimy on the outside so will need to give it a good wash this morning to check over the condition further. I can't really complain about the fact that it didn't arrive washed and polished, but really good service would be where the driver brings it for a clean nearby to where I live so that it arrives clean to create the right first impression. It's a £53k purchase after all...

Had asked LR if I could tax the car myself as obviously today is the 1 July and I didn't need to drive it yesterday but that wasn't possible and I wasn't going to argue over £20. They did volunteer to add an extra £20-30 of fuel to make up for it and it arrived with about a quarter of a tank? Before the driver arrived I felt a bit guilty that my own car had only 12 miles left on the range and so was going to put £20 of petrol in, but glad I didn't now.

Probably biggest disappointment for me is how poor the stereo is - no bass whatsoever. Already looked on the forum to see what can be done, but I don't want to spend too much more and will try to live with it. Probably been spoilt by the HK system in my old RRS (not bad), old M4 (really good) and now JCW (pretty good). Further disappointed when I saw a comment from Tim in Scotland that the base system on the MY16 is actually a downgrade on the MY15 - WTF!!?

The sliding panoramic roof that was a 'must' for me - not sure if that was worth it yet. The pano on JCW slides back and then with a further press it will go back a further few inches. It doesn't seem to go go back that extra bit on the RRS. Maybe the fixed pano roof that was on a MY15 Autobiography down the road from me would have been a better choice given it also has the Meridian upgrade. Few thousand extra but was also from an indie and so warranty was more limited.

The boot seems smaller compared to the old RRS (I know it is) with the spare wheel under the floor rather than under the car.

Might comment on the service from the dealership a little later after I see how they deal with the kerbed alloy.

A little bit disappointed overall - hopefully that will change when I drive it on my trip to Ireland next week, get used to the much better mpg and with the reassurance of a 2 year warranty and the service pack!? 2005 RRS First Edition Supercharged

I'm afraid the car would have gone straight back to dealer to sort all that out!
I cannot comment on the lack of Bass, but surprised it's worse than system in your old car, things like this do stop me upgrading. Whistle
Hope you can get it all sorted and a new alloy not repair, that shows complete lack of care if ok when left dealers. Censored
Don't forget you have the sale of goods act for protection and I would let LR know how a new car arrived. John

Well just gave Cartronics a call who are quite near to me and have a good reputation (albeit pricey). There is a fibre optic solution which I'm guided is in the £3-5k price bracket but no £500ish solution to get more bass...

The sound when played directly from my iPhone sounds somewhat better than when streamed over Spotify (which has no bass even when the bass control is turned up to the max) but still pretty poor - all treble and mid only.

Shocking for a car that retails at £70k new today! 2005 RRS First Edition Supercharged

It used to be that you had a Meridian 825w system as standard, that was reduced to a Meridian 380w system in 2015MY and for 2016MY it became "Land Rover 185w 8 speaker system" (read cheapest that they can get away with) and the 825w is a very expensive upgrade (£2000) for HSE and HSE Dynamic, standard on Autobiograpghy and SVR or you can pay £5000 for the 1700w Meridian surround sound system. Maybe LR thinks that drivers spend too much time on their mobile phone while driving to need a decent audio system............ 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

I have a MY2012 model and the sound is superb, it isn't the standard system, and has around 15 speakers, but wondered, doesn't your system have a Sub Woofer or two fitted to it? I'm sure you must be able to add a powered sub woofer to yours.
If it has, and I thought all had them, it could be that which is faulty, either the speaker/lead/amp channel, is the bad sound quality the same using CD player, DAB, FM, TV etc? I find playing back recordings from my iPhone are not as good as CD audio sources. I'm sorry can't be of more help, but I'm surprised they would fit such a lo-fi system in these "upmarket" cars.

EDIT: I think my system is Harmon Karden that is sure to be wrong spelling? Embarassed John

Probably on the my18 it won't come with a sound system at all,,then the 180 watt system will start at £500.

Andy.

I hope LR don't see this as it might give them a idea. Andy.

Not enough people complain and just accept the Censored they are now turning out, which all seems nastier, cheap and not so cheerful, but overpriced. Didn't mind when things use to work, but now they seem to use the customer to test half their non working electronics etc. Evil or Very Mad John

I am definitely going to be sending Land Rover my thoughts on this base stereo system and how it takes away from the rest of the car and the experience of buying one of their products. The sound is on a par with my Pure Evoke kitchen DAB radio!

I can't think of a good analogy for a high end car with such a woeful system - I would say it's like fitting the car with budget tyres, but at least you could change them out for something better easily!! 2005 RRS First Edition Supercharged

That is a problem with many cars now, updating/upgrading the sound system isn't easy as custom made designed.
The time to update maps and the extreme cost each year is a complete rip off. John
