Looking through the threads and posts on this site I cannot see a definitive or up to date answer on the subject of EGR BLANKING on a "7a" Tdv6 2.7 rrs.
Does anyone out there know if when working egr's are fitted and then blanked he problem with dash lights and fault codes re-emerging has been solved.
What are these EGR Emulators ? Have they been proven to work ?. Do you still blank the egr's with these "dummy" signals in place.
I have seen lots of info about removing / drilling holes etc in both the blanks themselves and the butterfly valve however it seems after a period of time the warning lights reappear.
Does anyone have a definitive answer to this please.

Done quite literally, hundreds of EGR blanks on 07/08/09 models, and never had an issue

Same here, as long as it has the right software patch applied, you won't get EML appearing for an egr fault.

Oh and you don't have to have working egrs to blank them. The only people that tell you that you do are the cheap generic remappers that can't map them out properly...... Bodsys Brake Bible

Bodsy I'm in swansea.
Been told locally that egr's have to be working.
Anyway seems like I've just paid £166 for nothing then as I intend to blank them off asap.
So now I have another question for you guys.
What's the procedure? .
Can you recommend what blanking kit.
And where can I get the software patch etc.
Incidentally I'm getting the impression that you guys can do this .
If so where are you located and how much ?

My RRS is 2005 so did not need the software patch. I bought the kit from ebay for about £15 and fitted it myself. It was a bit fiddly as the egrs are situated fairly low in the engine bay but a pretty easy job really.

If you DIY, I am sure someone like Bodsy will add the software patch if you need it.

I got all that side of things sorted.
A "7a" engine has an eu4 engine and software to go with it. This does not affect previous engines.
Hence a late 2007 car needs some sort of software upgrade "patch" as it is known to stop the eml coming on.
It is my understanding that there are different types of egr blanking kits out there.
And from what I can see it seems a better choice to blank off on the "exhaust "side of the egr valve. IE where the gasket between the egr and exhaust manifold as this would stop the gasses entering in the first place.
This is what my original post was relating to.
What blanking kit and what software update is needed as for as far back as I can remember this subject has been discussed.
However it seems like both Bodsy and disco mike have it all sorted.
Peter bell "bas" tuning was working on this "patch" some years ago but I don't know the result.
Somebody must be doing it by now and successfully with no warning lights.
As the guys said they have done stacks of them.

I have an O7MY and my egrs failed back in 2011 - before emulators. I bought two new EGRs and a BAS blanking kit - and remapped the ECU with the BAS version. As part of that process and before fitting the new EGRs I participated in an early remapping trial by BAS that included taking the EGrs out of the system - an early emulator.

At that early stage it did not work and the EML still kept on coming on. So I had an engine that was mapped, blanked with dead EGrs fitted with new ones to go in and the EML still coming on. At that stage I figured an emulator could be made that mimicked the EGrs and just plugged into the loom. I figured my new unfitted EGrs would act like a plug in emulator so decided to test it - yes with dead egrs fitted to the exhaust and new ones plugged into the loom the car ran fine and the EML did not come on.

Now in 2017 the dead egrs are still on the exhaust, the new egrs are bolted to the body near the ABS modulator and there is a wring loom extension joining them to the EGR wiring loom - the engine is still blanked and the EML has not come on in nearly 6 years.

Now since 2011 the emulators have been perfected - initially costs were more than EGRs but I think it is now cheaper. I have considered removing the unfitted EGrs and going to an emulator but due to the cost an my current system works there is no need.

So yes if you blank and have working EGRs the EML does not come on without an emulator BUT if your EGRs are fitted to the exhaust they will soon fail and you are back to square one.

If I owned a car now that had just had the EGrs fail - I would definitely leave the EGRs where they are, get the engine blanked and put in the emulator - quickest and easiest way to fix the issue - the only reason I continue the arrangement I have is because it was put in place before emulators and it works.

Many thanks to bodsy who came down to my house the very next day.
I am very impressed! He systomatically went through the vehicles fault history / software etc and quite obviously knew exactly what he was doing to the extent he did not even have to look for the right sized spanner. Everything needed to complete the EGR blanking he had to hand .
This demonstrates he knew exactly his job.
The same applies to updates in the software and the mapping.
The car is absolutely transformed the difference is that how much more "lively " evert hinges feels.
And so much easier and pleasurable it is to drive.
I cannot recommend bodsy to highly.
