help please downloading maps 2017 ab using the incontrol rou

A bit of help please. I'm trying to download the updated map which is showing as available. on the In control route planner, & signed in. I've then gone onto Maps & Services. I then get to the Get Latest Version option.Europe & Russia Map
Latest version available:08.030.0067.0153Size:Approx. 17 GB. This also shows my correct vin no. I click this & get a link to download a Download tool. I've downloaded this tool & installed it correctly. All good up to now. Then I've inserted a 64gb Fat 32 usb stick & when I try to download, I get the message "please plug in a usb device with at least 18.6gb of free space"
This is as far as I can get. I've reformatted the usb, tried another formatted 64gb usb, & tried them in 2 different computers, but can't get past this stage.
If I put in a smaller usb I get the message telling me it has insufficient space, as it should.
The only thing I can think is both the usbs are Intenso, so perhaps there is a compatability issue.
Any advice will be appreciated. current 2015 hse dynamic, grey.

It may be unrelated, but my MY17 won't accept 32 GB USB almost every time I try. I'm only using them for music, but I've had to deliberately downsize the USB flash drive to get the car to accept it. Your upload, unfortunately, is too big for the 'next one down'.

What will you do with the update when you get it on a USB, though? Will it read it from that? I had assumed that it was all on the HDD.

AFAIK FAT32 has a maximum file size of 4 GB, so unless the data payload is split to parts less than 4 GB in size, it won't save to a FAT32 memory stick. Try NTFS maybe? Regards etc.,

cheers wojtek, I'll try that, but the actual l/r site states it must be FAT 32. I'll try what you say. current 2015 hse dynamic, grey.

hi donny dog. I assume when I get the download, I'll follow the instructions to download it to the car. The site states the maps are updated 4 times a year & mine has an update available now. Have you been on the site to check yours? It's at https://landrover.here.com/index.php#home/0 current 2015 hse dynamic, grey.

It might be, perhaps what you've dowloaded is split in parts already, so it's a hardware issue.
There are some memory sticks that are less compatible. Another idea would be to split the memory stick into two paritions, one ~20 GB and the other for the rest of the capacity.

A similar thing happened to me on a totally different occasion of installing Mac OS X from a memory stick. It just didn't go through. But when I used a small usb hard drive instead of the memory stick, it went from there like a breeze. It may be the case. Regards etc.,

ok I'll try that, but I'm not sure how to partition the drive. More research required. current 2015 hse dynamic, grey.

no. they're all very small or 64gb. I've just tried partitioning the 64 but that hasn't worked. I'll get a 32 gb stick at weekend @ weekend and try again.
Just hope the update will be worth it! current 2015 hse dynamic, grey.

I have absolutely no idea about the update you are doing, but I do know with the 4Gb file size limit then formatting to exFAT has much better compatibility than NTFS and allows larger than 4Gb sizes. Must be worth a try before buying a new drive?

Hope nobody minds if I piggy back onto this thread.

I have a MY18 and got a message on my satnav regarding new maps available. Downloading onto a USB stick was pretty straight forward but can somebody tell me how long it takes to transfer the update from UBS to the car's satnav system?

Thanks

As far as I recall it takes hours and hours BUT provided you leave the USB in the port, every time you stop and restart the car it will pickup where it left off and continue the update until everything is finished. So if you get home and it hasn’t finished it will pick up again when you go to work the next morning. I don’t know if you have access to the Satnav while it is updating so you might need Google Mapson or the TomTom app on your smartphone until it is completed. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Excellent! I want to download updates before a road trip to the French GP this weekend. I don’t want to start the download in London and find that it completes by the time I get to Marseille Rolling Eyes
