Might need new rear wheel bearings 2010 Range Rover Sport SC

Hey guys,

Wondering what you think of this. When driving in straight line on smooth road everything is fine. If I jerk the wheel left or right I hear a distinctive knock coming from the right rear side. I am thinking it is my rear bearing going but not sure. Just in case, does anyone know where I can find the rear left and right bearings for a 2010 RRS S/C Petrol?

I've tried many of the UK sites and they all carry the bearing and hub assembly for the front but nothing for the rear.... Still looking. It seems parts for the 5.0 Petrol SC RRS is hard to find.

Cheers and thanks Smile

I'm no mechanic but isn't a knock more likely to ge a bush rather than a bearing? I would have thought a bearing would give you more of a grinding noise especially audible at low speeds Question Question Question Robin

Well that's what my ex-mechanic friend said. I'm going to his house tonight so he can take it for a spin and let me know but I had both front left and right bearings replaced so the sound coming from the rear is familiar. The front bearings did not grind but they did knock. when the tech put it on the lift he checked for play and there was a good 1 inch of play in both front wheels... No grind at low speeds, just some severe knocking that would get worst when I was taking a turn. The knocking I hear now seems to be caused by the same things, turning left or right and no knocking in a straight line but some knocking when I hit certain bumps. All this sounds too familiar. I hope it truly is a bushing as I imagine it is a bit easier to change than bearings especially in these cold temps. We'll see tonight I guess.

I'm pretty sure that all the drive line components are the same across the board until the RRS2, there are exceptions such as the gearbox (2010 onwards have 8 speed) and model/trim specific components (diff ratio's, steering rack spec and ACE).

So bearings from a 4.2 would fit your 5.0.

Not necessarily,

Mine for example left the factory in Sept 2009. This means the VIN is split. Dealerships call this a VIN split meaning the car has some stuff from the previous gen. Although it does have the 2010 look, engine and supercharger, it still has the 6 speed transmission. The 8 speed was probably released for 2012, but that's a guess. All I know for sure is that mine is from the first batch of 2010s so there are some 2009 components in it. Also note that the bearing LR021939 has been superseded by #LR045917

Same bearing but probably specced to higher tolerances.... Well, let's hope eh? Wink

Thanks guys for all your replies and after taking it to my mechanic friend, I'm a little more at ease now that he said it is the rear bushings which should not be too bad to swap out. We will be lifting it this Saturday to get a closer look and see exactly which bushing(s) it is. Hoping it's the sway bar bushings as they seem pretty easy to change.
