I have had a sudden problem with my 2005 sport. The central locking worked fine when I parked last night, but this morning there was no response when I pressed the remote fob to unlock. Nothing.

I was able to let myself in through the passenger side manual unlock under the end cap and the car stared normally. But there is still no response to the fob to lock or unlock. I have tried my spare fob and I have checked the fuse for the central locking in the glove box fuse panel.

I even, out of desparation, tried disconnecting the battery for 30 mins and reconnecting, but to no avail.

So I can lock and unlock manually through the passenger side, but weirdly, the tailgate is unlocked and stays that way. I am suspicious of the offside rear door mechanism, because the internal door handle stopped working recently, but I did not expect this complete failure.

Any ideas where I should look next?

Maybe start with the easiest checks first?
When did you last use your spare fob? If you haven't been regularly switching fobs to keep the batterys charged then perhaps they both have flat/defunct batterys.

Your local motor factors or service garage probably have a little gadget which can detect if your fobs are transmitting a RF signal.

If the fobs are working then the next obvious step is to have the OBD codes read. If there is another forum member nearby with a IID tool they could do that for you. 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE

I have had another look at it this morning. What I now know is that the central locking works via the lock/unlock buttons on the dash. But there is no response whatsoever to the key fobs. I have tried the one that was in daily use until Friday and which was used to lock the car on Friday night but could not unlock it on Saturday morning. I have also tried the spare fob to no avail. Since the central locking is working, but not through the fobs, is there some kind of reset that I might need to do? This has never happened before in 8 years of ownership.

I might add that the immobiliser is unaffected as the car still starts normally.

I am thinking that I may need to seek out someone to read fault codes for me, but before I do, does anyone have any thoughts as to what can be happening?

I locked the car normally one night and the next morning there was no response to the key fob. I can lock and unlock the car manually and the immobilizer clearly recognizes the key fob because it starts normally.

Crucially, the lock buttons on the dash lock and unlock all doors normally too. Just no response to either key fob.

I have checked the central locking fuse, which obviously was okay since the dash buttons work. But I assume there must be some sort of reset needed. Although I have no evidence as to what has caused this.

I had similar symptoms, and the dealer ordered a new module, but I cured it by taking out the relevant fuse and putting it back again. However, as you have already disconnected the battery maybe that won't work and it really is the module.

Don`t suppose you know where the central locking module is located?

Sorry, no. I forgot to say that this phenomenon struck again a few months later, was cured the same way (with fuse removal), and never happened again, (but that's probably no help to you!). As a guess, I'd suggest the module may be under the steering column, as that's where you have to put the key if you are having problems with key recognition.

No that is very helpful actually. I will have a look at it this weekend (if it isn`t too cold outside). It is too difficult to mess around in the dark in the evenings.

I am still trying to overcome this problem. To save me a lot of dismantling work, does anyone know the location of the central locking control module?

Did you try pulling the fuse ?

Also disconnecting the battery doesnt always clear the problem, to do a soft reste you need to disconnect the battery and touch the two leads together.

Ah brilliant. I assume you mean touching the disconnected live and earth terminals?
