Steering wheel upgrade to 2010 type

I have a 2005 first edition S/C, really want to do something with the steering wheel as it looks and feels awful.
Looking at a 2010 upgrade but is it possible to retain the Adaptive Cruise Control whilst adding paddle shift and heating.
I have read some earlier posts that state the clockspring may need replacing to get the power to the heating element is this true. Can I reuse my original airbag or will I need the 2010 one.
When it's all fitted will anything need programming or is it plug and play
Since buying a little diesel Smart car, I really miss paddle shift when driving the Sport, I might be able to convince myself it's more economical changing cogs myself !
Thanks in advance. Life's too short to drive boring cars !

I did this mod. way back on a 09 pre facelift car, used all new parts heated steering wheel, switch packs etc. the only part you cannot get to work on the pre facelift is the r/h menu button on the latter steering wheel athough you can make both left and right buttons work the audio controls.

The paddle shift will only work when gearshift is in sports mode, you will need the latter clockspring and also need to wire in a feed for the heated wheel as early pre facelift did not have wiring fitted, I think the connector plug you need is avaliable from the forum shop. Using all new parts it cost around 1k.

Cheers

Thanks Col, I won't be using any new parts. Will I need a clockspring off a 2010 MY and will the early cars connectors fit. Life's too short to drive boring cars !

You will need the later clockspring but make sure it is the latter one with the heated wheel connector, according to parts lists all facelift cars had it fitted wether they had heated wheel or not but judging by other post this is not the case.

I'm quite sure the plug/connector lead you need to fit the clockspring you can buy in the forum shop a plug and play kit around £15.00

Did you have to enable or program anything to get the paddles to work Life's too short to drive boring cars !

No, did not need to programme or enable anything to get the paddles or any of the switch packs etc. to work once the new circuit boards had been fitted.

Did you wire in the paddles shift direct to the gearshift module,
How long is the delay from pressing the paddle to changing gear Life's too short to drive boring cars !

The wireless reciever is spliced into the wiring harness under the center consol by the gearstick. A wiring diagram is included with the kit from BBS.

The gearshift/change is virtualy instant with no delay.
