Looking at buying a RRS tdv8 with over 100,000 on the clock

Help!

I am in 2 minds. I have wanted a rrs tdv8 for ages. Funds now allow me to spend 12000 without getting any finance. I have found a tdv8 in grey with 6 owners making me the 7th. its done 106000 miles. it feels tight to drive. it has a full service history. I have record of all the mot checks. spoke to the garage that looked after it for the last 2 years, no issues. Have found that it does need discs and pads on the front but I can have that done by a Landrover specialist for 280.00 so that doesn't bother me.

I am just worried that I spend 12000k on a private sale to find that 106000 miles is making the car on its way out. Can I have everyones thoughts please. is my heart ruling my head?

Would you stop a mileage of 106000 buying the car?

When I was looking I decided 85k was top whack for me, I personally would never by a car that's done over 100k

Call me old fashioned

Sounds a good buy on the face of it, looks tidy in the pictures , it's all about the history rather than the mileage. Nanocom Evo

Its all about history for me not miles.

106k full service history all recipes and looked after.

vs

80k some history ragged to death no evidence of TLC.

Cheers Guys,

The car is only going to be used at weekends so will only run up about 5000 miles a year. I am still on the fence. Should I or shouldn't i. All the others I have looked at are 14000 plus for the same mileage / specification. its just all new tyres, rear discs and pads fitted. it has upgraded rear and front lights.

I need more help guys unless anyone in here has a really nice tdv8 available with less miles for around the same money.

regards

106k miles isn't too bad of it's been looked after. At that mileage the gearbox needs flushing if not already done. Check the transfer box engages low range and back to high range. Put it in rock crawl and check the centre diff locks too. You might never go off road but even in snow mode the diff lock will be active to a degree. Nice to make sure it's healthy. Diff lock and low range activation use the same motor/solenoid so you want it to be healthy.

My TDV8 has 139k on it now. Thinking of a new set of suspension bushes all round at 150k. I've had issues with mine but they seem to be dealer related rather than inherent issues in the RRS. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Hi,

Thanks for your input. The chap that owns it did say he has just had a gear box flush done. He said he was told it did not need done normally until 150000 but it was in getting a service so had it done. See the car again this Friday so will check out the low range. Is there a list somewhere like a checklist I can take with me?

How does your RRS feel with 130000 miles plus? still tight? any clunking from suspension? Any turbo issues?

Regards

Personally, I wouldn't worry about the mileage of this car, there are plenty around that have covered far higher mileages than that. I have just bought a 2005 TDV6 with 108k miles and it drives like a new car. Like you I will use it mostly at weekends and do 4-5k miles each year.

I did an mot check (on the car in your picture), it has an advisory for n/s and o/s front suspension pin/bush as well as front brake pads. If you do buy the car, probably best to get them done at the same time as the brakes.

Well guys,,
Tomorrow is the big day. I need to make a decision if I am going to buy it or not. I did find some paint drip on the passenger front door. the owner does not know how it happened but it looks as if someone has used to much paint and it has dripped, tank of to much paint on a radiator and it all runs. Would this worry you?

Disco Mikey is the "in house" Scottish based D3/RRS fixer - he's based in the Dundee area so not really that close to you. There are other Land Rover specialists in Scotland but I doubt any has the knowledge of D3/D4 and RRS1 as Mikey. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
2018 Melting Silver Mini Countryman PHEV - soon to be replaced
2015MY Corris Grey SDv6 HSE Dynamic, the best car I have ever owned, totally reliable only a cou0le of rattles in 3 years, now no longer in my care
Also in my garage is a 1996 TDi300 Defender 90 County HT made into a fake CSW

Hi Guys,

Just wanted to thank you all for the help you gave. I am now the proud owner of a Grey 2007 Range Rover Sport HSE TDV8. It sounds amazing and goes like stink. Taking it in the morning to get wheel alignment and front wheel balance. Will keep you all posted.

Will get it all polished up and take some pictures for my album on here.

Cheers
