Don't know about the unit you have, but I have both a Garmin Smartdrive 76 and a TomTom Go Discover 7" and they both work perfectly in my MY13 sport and hire cars when over in OZ.

Thanks for the replies folks. Yes it may be a faulty unit but it does work perfectly in other cars and you can see how many satellites it connects to. Google maps on my phone works fine in the RR.

I don't think those signal boosters actually plug into the unit, they boost the signal from outside the vehicle to the inside, but stand to be corrected

As Col says, you place one where you can get a GPS signal within the car and the it retransmits a strong GPS signal throughout the car.
