I kind of have the same issue with my2005 SC. If i turn the key straight away it sometimes turns over a while, and occasionally doesn't turn over at all. But if i turn to position 2 and wait for the car to do its start up procedure it fires up straight away...........These really are made like nothing else haha |

Mine is an 06 so if similar age, must just be another of those weird and wonderful Range Rover features that are not in the brochures haha |

I have a SC also, during startup I always put key into position 2 and wait for all the lights to turn off before turn the engine over, works perfectly every time. |

After turning key to position 2 and waiting for few seconds you should get a "bong" to say all ready then flick to position 3, mine used to, and you don't have to hold the key at position 3, just flick and let go.. try it! 5.0 Ltr Superchrged RRS2, Chile Red, Sideways out of junctions!

If you're leaving it for a second before starting after switching on the ignition I would say that the fuel pump in the tank has time to build up pressure. So either you've got a weak pump or a slight leak causing the fuel to run back overnight.

Hmmm... sounds like a fuel pump issue. On mine the fuel pump primes the system the instant I open any of my doors. i know this because I hear that telltale Whirring noise it makes. This primes the fuel line to be ready for a start up. I'm guessing this is why you are having some start issues and need to wait before it fires up. If its more than this have a look at the novel of a thread I started a year ago. Enjoy
