Driving into Swindon this evening..

Had to go to Swindon after work tonight to kick out some tenants and move some others in. Was in a bit of a rush and if anyone drives into swindon from the motorolla factory side (A417 i think?) you'll know if you get caught at one set of red lights, you'll get caught at the next 20, so everyone boots it in between..

There was a mid 30's bloke in a 530d sport saloon, with a teenage lad in the passenger seat, and another in the rear, and was in the right lane.. He stomped on the gas when the lights went green, and we had about 1/4 mile between the next set, so i obviously obliged (as one does).. and i was surprised, my lump of a 7 series was completely neck and neck with him, and i could tell he was giving it full beans in steptronic mode.. i was in manual mode myself, but was letting the car redline and change itself.. very impressed with the 7 series performance and handling.. we proceeded to do the same between each light (keeping below 40 speedlimit obviously..) and every time we were completely neck and neck.. not sure what the torque stats are, but i thought the 530d had the same bhp as the 730d and would perform off the mark quicker due to less weight.. seemed he was breaking away like by 1/2 a metre every point he changed up a gear, but the transmission in the 7 not being steptronic, was pulling forward every time i crossed 3k revs.. hmm interesting..

Shame the CLK 350 petrol absolutely stomped on me before hand.. missed the m3 at that point!
