Electrical gremlins! Advice / recommend elecrician pls

Hi all,

First of all thanks for taking the time to read this. I'm looking for some thoughts, feedback or recommendations!

The wife's 2010 RRS has now twice (in one year) discharged the battery when left parked up to the point it wouldn't start. Both times it started quickly with a jump start and first time AA test showed that the battery was charging well and holding charge. The battery is 2 1/2 years old.

Don't think we left anything on - or certainly nothing different from normal - to our knowledge.

Are there any obvious gremlins we should look for? Alternatively anyone recommend a decent specialist close to Guildford that could help?

Many thanks for your thoughts and recommendations.

Cheers,

Andy

Upper Tailgate Release

Its a known problem, in fact I think mine needs replacing again, but a simple/easy fix - just replace it! 5 min job and parts on eBay about £30

Have the battery properly checked, they often do fail. Most come with 3/4/6 year warranties, so hopefully still under guarantee.
Ensure all the interior and load area lights are going off when turning off after parking.
Short journeys can also rapidly drain the battery, more so in the Winter more than summertime.
Another possibility is the alternator on its way out, so not putting enough back into the battery, but first port of call would be to get battery checked.
I'm sure others will have some suggestions later.

I was a bit slow typing so someone best me. Very Happy John

If you aren't using it for a few days at a time I would recommend a CTEK 5 charger.

You mean the switch ?

The focus/mondao switch looks the same, and about £7 on ebay.

This One or similar. I don't know about the Mondeo one being suitable.

I've recently had the battery issue, after opening tailgate release and looking inside the tailgate, in order to install a reverse camera, can see its badly rusted.

That rusting should be covered under warranty, if you have one? Neutral John

worth trying at that price.

Connector could be different.

Rust under the middle spolier you mean ? Fairly common. Due to the rear wiper operating

Many thanks for your prompt and comprehensive help folks.

The price of replacing that switch is low enough to warrant trying that before getting an electrician out to troubleshoot - always fun with an intermittent fault.

Again, really appreciate your help. Thumbs Up

Have a great weekend all.

Andy

I recently had strange electrical problems whereby the car would start and drive fine but then be completely flat upon restart, it then started fine with a boost and was fine for days. I took the car to my local garage for diagnosis and it turns out that a garage that had done some work for me hadn't tightened the positive terminal on the battery correctly and it was arcing and voltage was dropping.

It wouldn't start as maybe after parking the vibrations had disconnected the battery (although you couldn't see this) and then with a jump start I had unknowingly connected the terminal again.

Just something to look at for you.
